Stitches after laparoscopy

Hi All,

I had a laparoscopy 2 weeks ago, they said the stitches would dissolve on their own but they are still there. They look like nylon threads. When I went to the surgery the nurse only trimmed them and said they would fall off. I just don’t see any changes and they look quite strong to me. Any ideas?

I had a laparoscopy last June. The treatment room nurse removed my stitches. Maybe go back to your drs surgery and let them know your stitches are not falling off. All the very best. Take care.x

I had the same with mine. They took about 2 and a half weeks and really didn’t look like they were going anywhere but they just came away in the shower one day . X

Mine just fell off eventually, it did take a wee while. Hopefully not too much longer for you to wait xx

Hi I had the same. Most dissolved but some hung on in there. Try and soak in the bath that did the trick for me. But don’t worry too much it’ll go when it’s ready xxx

Hi Larobby, give it a bit longer. It took 3-4 weeks until mine fell off. I felt still quite swollen after 2 weeks and my belly only settled after a month. I hope you have a smooth recovery x

Thank you! It’s nice to hear all the different experiences and that I am not alone. Still feeling a bit sore, but getting better by the day.

Let them get wet. They need moisture to dissolve x

Glad you’re feeling better, just have a question, I’m thinking to do laparoscopy as my dr offerd that to me but I’m not sure about the way the insert camera trough the belly botton, sounds very scary and uncomfortable. Is it very painful after surgery? xx

My belly button is absolutely fine, now the stitches have gone it doesn’t even look like they have been inside it. It was a bit uncomfortable in the beginning as I could only sleep on my back. I had a strong period pain but it was manageable with normal painkillers. They usually don’t suggest laparoscopy unless the advantages are higher than the risk...do you have a good doctor? I had to change clinic as I didn’t trust my first one, but second was recommended and doc is great. What do you need laparoscopy for?

Ah that’s great! I thought it must be very uncomfortable as I’m very sensitive about my belly botton. I started my first cycle in January so I’m very new with everything, yes he is good I think, the nurse told me that they are happy to do laparoscopy for me if I like to do it and if there was anything they will remove it the same time, and if I don’t like to do it they are happy to continue my ivf. I don’t have any symptoms except my painful period just first 2 days, they not sure if I have it or not. I don’t know why they offered me that really! I don’t have fertility problem but we couldn’t get pregnant naturally xx

Do it hun it’s really ok. It made my periods much better and thanks to the lap we found the cause and with it treated I fell - first time in 6 years- we didn’t think we could conceive. ( I did miscarry) I think it’s good to rule everything out - if nothing else than to know everything is normal and then you can go into your next round knowing it has the best chance- you might even fall naturally if they find something and treat it 💗 It sounds so much worse than it is.promise you. It’s so gooc they’re offering you it- so many ladies have to fight to get a lap just to diagnose endometriosis. You’ve got nothing to lose by having lap xoxo

Ah thanks jess, your comment makes me feel much better. My dr said it’s high chance that I don’t have it but they can do it for me to make sure. Yeah honestly it sounds so scary! So if someone has endo but has no fertility problem, can this cause not getting pregnant? My period pain is just 2 days sometimes 3 days that’s it. I hear people suffering severe pain. But yeah nothing to lose. Hope you’re ok xoxo

in reply toAnna00

All our tests came back as normal- no one could tell us why we couldn’t conceive. Then they found endo and voila it fixed we fell!!! I had 2 implants - one was on the back of my uterus which meant no embryo could implant- so even if I had IVF it would’ve failed. So yes endo can affect fertility.

There is a site which has lots of info on endometriosis and it covers fertility.

It’s great your consultant is proactive- my first one was really dismissive and I have had a long journey thanks to him 🙄

At least you’ll know for sure and put your mind at ease xoxo

So if I have endo there is a chance that my ivf fail,am I right? Maybe that’s why mine didn’t implant who knows. I’ll call my clinic to see if I can have a chat with my dr,my follow up is on March 15. Thanks for your info very helpful xoxo

in reply toAnna00

It’s hard to say but if you have endo ( I hope you don’t as it’s not a nice condition to live with) in some locations such as mine was it could do. I don’t want to worry you and I hope I haven’t. I think all women facing infertility should have a check for endometriosis. xoxo
