Hey guys, had EC first thing this morning. I felt fine going in and relaxed before it all started. My procedure ended up being complicated, they initially told us it would take 5 mins and it took a hour and i was in quite alot of pain. I know this isnt usual and majority of stories ive heard everyone has said no pain in EC. It just unfortunately wasnt the case for me. I am also pretty upset as only got 2 eggs which im disappointed by as i had approx 12 follicles.
The doctor spoke to me after and said the procedure didn't go well and that majority of my follicles are empty. He said this is rare but does happen. They took bloods to see if this will shed any light. He said there is usually a biological reason and there's nothing we did wrong.
Because of this if the 2 eggs fertilise to embroys we will be getting both transferred on Day 2, this Saturday. Thats if i get that far, il hear from embryologist tomorrow morning. Ive never heard of a Day 2 transfer, has anyone any experience of this?

I have no experience but just wanted to say I can understand how disappointed you must be but don’t give up hope. Keeping everything crossed that tomorrow brings good news, rest up for today xx
Thanks E_05. Im mortified for crying like a baby but couldnt help myself between being in pain and only getting 2 eggs. I know it only takes 1 so i just hope they are decent quality. ❤
I did question it and yes that is why. They said of there was a bunch to choose from they wait to see who the strongest player is but when there are only 2 the best thing is to get them back in asap. If they arent going to survive in ur womb then they wont survive in a lab. So because theres no choice its a case of get them back in asap. We were always told we could only have 1 but given fhe circumstances they are recommending 2 go back in xx
So sorry you had such a bad expirence with your egg collection , I had a 2 day transfer with my first ivf round, it ended in chemical pregnancy but was more to do with poor quality embryos with me . Maybe if there going good on day 2 you could ask your clinic about taking them to a day 3 transfer.
Thank you for ur reply. The nurse said theres a misconception that a day 5 is better than a day 3, is better than a day 2 etc. She said the only reason for waiting longer is to pick the strongest one.
Good to hear of someone else that had a day 2. Im sorry it didnt end in a baby for u 😘
I had a day 2 transfer on my first cycle when I only had one fertilised egg. They just wanted to get it back safe in me ASAP. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad time of it. What a trauma, be very kind to yourself now x
Thanks Lizzielizzielizzie, glad to hear im not the only one. I just hope they make it to day 2. It was gery traumatic i wont lie, not what i was expecting at all and not usual for the clinic, i could feel everything xx
I’m so sorry that you can remember it, let alone that you could feel it. You’ve been very brave and strong, just keep that bravery going for a little while longer whilst you wait for transfer. Xx
I was awake during mine. I was never told it would only take 5 minutes and in actual fact it was 20-30 minutes. I did feel some pain but I asked for a top up, I had Pethadine in a drip into my arm. After the top up it was just extremely uncomfortable but much more bearable. My OH had to leave the room for 5 minutes as he felt feint and they let him lie in my recovery bay! Lol.
I think you did really well. You should be proud of yourself. Disappointing numbers for sure but hopefully you’ll have at least one tough fighter because as we’re always told, it only takes one. Fingers crossed for you xx
My hubby was in with me and he said the nurse topped me up 3 times and i also had gas&air. Dont know what it was, i feel like maybe im jus a big wimp 🙈
Lol at ur other half dear love him!
Thanks for ur hopeful message, i have everything crossed ❤🤞
He still hasn’t lived it down! Because he’d done all my injections he’d referred to himself as “Doctor” I now affectionately call him Doctor Feinter! 😂 xx
You are absolutely not a whimp, it doesn’t always go smoothly. After my third EC, in the recovery room I started passing massive clots of blood the size of boiled eggs. I was horrified and so scared. They had to rush me back into the theatre and found they’d nicked a vein in there. I cried like a baby! I was terrified. They couldnt get it sorted there so I ended up in an ambulance going to the nearest NHS hospital gynae ward. Was there until 8 o’clock that night. It was so traumatic. Worst day ever! I guess there’s always some risk involved.
Oh my goodness how traumatic for u!!!!! U jus expect these things to go to plan and 99 times out of 100 they do but like u say i guess there's always that chance. We are all just human after all! Xx
That’s their policy. I think they are better in you too- hopefully theylll make a nice home for the next 9 months 🤰🏼 Got everything crossed for you xoxo
So sorry you had such a bad experience! I never heard day 2 transfer, and how your nurse said it’s a misconception! Of course the embryos can improve by days as mine did, even there is different between day 5 and 6 as I had 2 5cell embryos yesterday which they told me not suitable for freezing so they waited till today, and today told me one of them is 8cell blastocyst which they going to freeze that for me. If they told you they didn’t fertilised by day 2 ask them to wait till day 3 even 5. Hope tomorrow brings good news for you🤞🏻🙏🏻 Xxx
Thanks Anna. What i took from it was when there are more eggs it is beneficial to wait to choose the strongest ones but when there are only 2 there are no benefits in waiting as these are the only 2 that can go back in. The nurses were all so lovely and probably just trying to reassure me.
I’m so sorry that your EC didn’t go as smoothly as it might have. I’m sure you are feeling very tender after that lengthy procedure.
For my 3rd and 4th ICSI I had 3 and 2 eggs and ended up having a day 2 transfer. I think the theory behind it was that because my numbers were low the best place for them was back inside my uterus. There was nothing to lose if you like!
I am hoping so much your little eggs are good ones and they fertilise normally. Keeping everything crossed it’s good news for you in the morning.
For now try to rest after your ordeal today. Sending you lots of love xxx
Thanks Dunla. Pain wise now im fine, its jus like period cramps but just feel wuite traumatised from it being so painful and the shock of only getting 2 eggs. Thank you for ur kind words and yes thats what the nurse explained. If they arent going to make it in my womb they arent going to make it in a lab so might as well get them both back in. Im wondering if this is why ive never been pregnant. Perhaps each month i dont have eggs in my follicles, my periods are pretty much non existent so ibe always wondered about this. How r u? Xx
Your poor thing, you’re bound to be in shock. My heart goes out to you. Sending you a big hug. I’m grand. Nervous about the morning but not as bad as I have been in the past xx
Thank u! Best of luck to u, i hope all goes well! 😘 xx
Hi I had the exact same thing with my first collection and had so much sedation by the time it kicked it took 2 hours for me to wake enough to go home.
I have asthma so the first time I had to have an anaesthetist in the room incase my breathing changed under sedation and then they would put me fully under. Due to this on my second collection I just had a general and was fully awake within an hour of going down to theatre.
I will be having a general again for my third collection in just under 2 weeks.
I also had a day two transfer on my first cycle as I only had one embryo from 5 eggs collected and they felt the best place for it was back where it belonged. Unfortunately it didn't work for us but have heard success stories.
Oh my god I can’t believe they didn’t knock you out for egg collection?!?! You are amazing that you continued with the procedure, you’re an absolute trooper. I think the girls have given more advice than I could on a day 2 transfer, but just want to wish you lots of luck xxxxx
Thanks Aleelilook, from reading other people's accounts they were on wakened sedation too so it doesnt seem unusual for me to be awake and i was expecting to be, but i can remember everything and was in alot of pain which i wasnt expecting and the doctor said himself wasnt usual. The doctor did say next time id have to get heavier sedation as it wasnt enough. I have allergies so perhaps wasnt on the same meds as others, dont know. Thanks for ur well wishes xx
My god honestly I would have had a nervous breakdown, you did bloody well! I hope you’re resting and being waited on for at least a week after that trauma xxx
Thanks hun. All i could think was they must be nearly done and i heard them say first egg & i thought how the hell am i gonna get through this when theyve only jus got the first egg but i did. Its over now and im just hoping and praying the 2 eggs or at least 1 make it to tomorrow! Xx
Awww I'm really sorry that you've had a hard time!! I hope you get some answers and have everything crossed for your two precious embryos!! They're better in you, their natural environment than a dish and that's the general thinking!xx
My friend only had two eggs from her egg collection- she is now about 30weeks pregnant. I am not sure whether she had a day 5 or earlier transfer but the embryologist will keep a close eye on your precious harvest. A friend is a gynaecologist and he said that they use day 5 as that self selects stronger embryos when you have several choices but if you don’t have as many embryos then they do better in the uterus than in the lab. Try not to lose hope xx
I hope you are tucked up in bed and wishing you lots of luck.
THANK YOU for ur message. So happy to know that ur friend is pregnant with 2 eggs. I remain hopeful for tomorrow! Crossing everything! Yes thats what was explained pretty much about not needing to wait to day 5 as wont be choosing the "best" ones. Thanks for ur well wishes xx
