Hi guys.. I am a married Man of 35yrs old.. I have no children of my own.. I have been married to my wife for 5 yrs and she has 2 children from a previous relationship.. we have tried to conceive but after 2 test my motility isnt great..
I just really wanted to know.. A. What are my chances through IVF?..and...B. can I get NHS help?

Hi sorry to hear this. As your wife has children I think this means no entitlement to ivf support on Nhs but would privately be an option for you? I think for sperm issues it’s normally icsi rather than ivf that is recommended. This is a little bit more expensive around £4 to 5k I think. I’m not sure about success rates for your issue but you will certainly find a lot of support and experience here. Many have had successful treatment with male factor infertility. Good luck
This very much depends on your local NHS. My cousin in wales has been offered one round of ivf on the NHS as she has a child from a previous relationship but her partner doesn't have any. In her district it would have been 2 or 3 if neither of them had any. However, I live in Northern Ireland and both my partner and I are childless and are still only entitled to the one treatment. Definitely worth contacting your local clinic. Good luck

Whilst finding out about assisted conception, there are things you can do to try to improve your motility. My clinic recommends supplements called condensyl or menevit which you can get online. I’ve seen on here than other men get recommended proxeed. Also stop drinking/smoking if you do these, wear loose underwear and avoid hot baths. Hope it helps!
Our clinic recommended Proxeed too. It’s pricey but it does work!
You may find you’ll have to self fund through an NHS or private clinic. You’ll have to go for IVF with ICSI. It’s a more expensive procedure and prices will vary from clinic to clinic. You can self refer to a private clinic but will need referral from your GP to see fertility consultant under the NHS. Wishing you lots of luck going forward ☺️
Hey! Like the other ladies said, it's highly unlikely that you will qualify for NHS support sadly (I think this aspect of the system is very mean), but ICSI (where they inject individual sperm into each egg) would be a good option for you.
Changing your lifestyle can have a dramatic effect on your sperm too - taking a supplement such as wellman conception, cutting out smoking and drinking, exercising and healthy diet. It may take a while but if time is on your side (depending on the age of your wife) this would be a good option to try first - saves a lot of money and saves your wife going through the treatment. I know of a man who turned his fertility totally around within a year. At the very least try this for 3 months - as the sperm you ejaculate is always made 3 months in advance - then test again to see if it has had any effect.

I just wanted to say that my husbands sperm mobility was not good when we first went down this path, but it improved a lot after he starting taking well mans conception tablets, they really helped his sperm, with a bit of healthy eating. maybe give it a try. Also they only need a bit of sperm when you do IVF, but your previous partner can not have children, otherwise you have to pay for your treatment.

It really will depend on your local Area’s funding rules.
It may be worth considering treatment abroad if you do have to pay. Most clinics abroad do icsi as standard and it's a lot cheaper than in the uk. I also found the service better having had treatment at 2 uk clinics and 2 clinics abroad.
I am about to undergo a frozen embryo transfer at Iakentro in Athens through Ruth at ivftreatmentabroad. She is a uk fertility nurse who liases with several clinics in Greece and Spain. She is paid by the clinic to make their life easier, and doesn't cost any more.

Hi, if you're in Scotland then the rules were recently changed and you may be enitled to NHS help. If not then you may have to look into self funding as others have said. Have tried the usual things of stopping smoking, cutting back on alcohol, no hot baths & keeping cool downstairs. Cycling is also not meant to be great for you. You can also try coq10 and vitamin c which are inexpensive. Best of luck.
