Advice please

Hi all, I had bilateral salpingectomy, drainage of endometrioma and excision of endometriosis done last Friday. I had my first cycle of ivf last year December and it was unsuccessful. I had no egg left to be frozen. I had my follow in January 2017 and I decided to go for the surgery as my left ovary was inaccessible to collect eggs on it(left ovary was stuck at the back of my uterus). On Monday 27 November 2017, I’ve called my fertility clinic to book an appointment to see my consultant for me to discuss about when I can start my second cycle. I was told by the fertility clinic that I cannot book another appointment until they received the referral and report of my surgery. I’ve explained to them, that hospital is not going to send them any referral bcos I’m already been referred for ivf since 2016 and I went to have the surgery to fix my ovary and tubes. They still persisting they can’t book me any appointment until I get those report. I have sent them my discharge summary, they want the detail report of my surgery 🤦🏻‍♀️. By the way I’m nhs funded and the second cycle is supposed to be my last one. Any ladies here can give me some advice what to do pls. Is the fertility clinic is doing the right thing asking me the details report of my surgery or they just bullying me? I feel lost and down. I really want this to start moving as I got endometriosis. Sorry for the long post.

Hi there. if there was only a little detail on the discharge summary, to be honest I can understand them wanting to know exactly what was done, to make sure they understand your situation and do the best for you. You need at least a month to recover I would suggest. If you contact your surgeon's secretary at the hospital (ring the hospital switchboard and ask) then explain the situation. She can then ask the surgeon to draft a letter which should be quick to do. I hope you get that quickly and can move on to the next stage. Hope you recover quickly too x

Thanks for the reply. Yes, my consultant told me after a month I can start the second cycle. I just want to see my doctor so I can discuss what kind of protocol she will go forward with when i’m ready. And also I know I will need to do all the blood tests all over again. So to save time in the mean while I can have all my blood test forms ready for when i’m Ready to do it. Bcos my consultant told me with endometriosis there’s a high chance adhesion will come back and my ovary might stick again 😩. But thanks I will try to contact his secretary and see if they can provide me a report.

Hi amiraalexander. I do agree with what "Coracle" has said. The specialist doing your IVF will want all the information possible before deciding your treatment plan. You need time to recover too. Just really wanted to wish you well when you do start. Thinking of you. Diane

Thanks for the well wishes Diane. Yes, i’m giving myself a month rest. I was hoping after new year I can start my second cycle. 😊

Hello Amiraalexander. I can understand your frustration. However, you must understand. The IVF clinic would want all the details. Only then can they figure out the best protocol for you. Besides, they are obligated to do things by the book too. They are held accountable otherwise. So, we can't really blame them for following the procedure. Ask your hospital for another referral. Explain the situation to them. Hopefully, they will understand why you need to be referred again. If they don't refer then atleast ask them for the details of the surgery. That might be all the clinic needs. Discharge slip usually doesn't have enough information on it. I hope things work out for you. Good luck!

Hi there. I am sorry that you are having to face all this trouble. However, you need to see it from the clinic's point of view. They can't proceed untill they have all the details. So, for that they need a referral. However, if your hospital refuses to provide one, then don't worry. Contact the surgeon directly. Ask them for any documentation. Anything to prove that your surgery was a success. Also, it should include the other technical details of the procedure. I hope this is all the clinic requires. Hopefully, this will solve your trouble. Good luck. Keep us updated. Let me know if you want more information.

Hello dear! It is never the end until you say it is the end. You should not give up. It is the truth of life. We all have to face difficult things in our life. But it does not mean we give up. Your dedication and hard work always pays off. You need to be strong enough. Look at all the other ladies who have been trying even with their infertility issues. They still have not lost hope. I would suggest you to join gym to stay fir. Improve your diet plan. Go out with friends. These are the healthy activities you can do to make yourself feel relaxed. I hope you will soon have a baby. Take care.
