I promise I will do my best to keep this short & sweet 😊
At my last gynae appointment with my infertility consultant we agreed we'd see one another after my surgery & that the next step, she felt should be referral for IVF but reassured me this was of course my/our choice and said we'd discuss everything at our next meet.
I have had my surgery & called the infertility clinic yesterday to check if they had an appointment in the diary for me yet. The woman on the phone said unfortunately there was no appointment assigned to me yet but my name was on the list, waiting for an appointment. The woman was so polite & friendly I accepted what she said and thanked her for her time. However, since that conversation I feel like there might now be an unnecessary delay in an already huge process.
To the point - At the last meeting with my gynae consultant I'm almost sure she said I could email her directly with any questions but now I'm questioning my own memory. I'd like to be able to contact my consultant somehow to give her the go-ahead to refer us onto the IVF waiting list rather than waiting months to get a face-to-face appointment to say "yes please, go ahead". We've performed all the clinical checks necessary for referral prior to my surgery, it's just that procedure took precedence.
Does anyone have experience of being able to email/communicate with their consultant directly? Does anyone think it's worthwhile me calling back & enquiring as to whether they have any kind of cancellations list, to be placed on that?
Thank you 🧡

I’ve got no personal experience in communicating with consultants directly honey but I do work in a hospital. All consultants will have secretaries, could be worth asking for the secretaries email and trying to get in touch with consultant that way???? xx
I think that's maybe who I already spoke to yesterday, I called the main hospital switchboard & asked for my consultant's secretaries but that's a very good idea to ask for their email to send written correspondence f.a.o my consultant! I hadn't thought of that and it means I'd have a paper trail of any communication too. Thanks 😁
I just saw your post about your HPT so I will reply to that in just a mo!
No problem lovely. I don’t know if it will work but definitely worth an ask. I’m sure something important as ‘you can email me directly’ isn’t something you would have imagined xx
It sounds like you are on the waiting list for IVF. Why not phone the clinic back and just be honest and just ask how it works....are you on the waiting list to start treatment or to see a consultant at the clinic? If on waiting list how long is it roughly. With myself we got put on the IVF waiting list but meantime had appointment for bloods and scans. We eventually got a letter around a month before we started to say "you are next on the list and to give them a call on day 1 of next period". Our was NHS. I'm sure the sect wont mind you asking, theyll get that all the time!xx
Thanks so much for your reply. It is a little confusing with different clinics in different departments, at different hospitals! That's exactly what I'll do next, thank you 🙂 sometimes things just get a bit muddled & it's really helpful for someone impartial to say "do this" haha!
