Hi everyone, i am after some advice (again!) I have fertitly appointment next week and I'm expecting we start to seriously talk about IVF. It was mentioned a couple of months ago after a lap. Was told keep trying naturally but to start IVF in the new year if it hasn't happened.
Just wondering what type of questions to ask at the first consultation for IVF? I have tried to read about IVF as much as I can but there so much information, it's hard to know where to start!
Thanks for any advice!

Just thought I'd drop by and try and help a bit . I've just been through the whole process saddley it hadn't would for us yet but we are starting again in the new year .
Firstly I would say get a feel for the doctor . We were sweep along on more of a sale pitch I was uncomfortable with my clinic from the start I wish I'd gone with my gut reaction and shopped around first ,
Information is key to bring the stress out of the whole situation .
Ask about your personal success rate based on your test results not the clinics .
As well as their medical practice ask about how fast they would get back to you after you have a question while you are going through the IVF , you will ask questions and at times need reassurance . It's very important you have a clinic to support you through the whole process .
This is your journey and it has to be right for you .
I felt so grateful that I was starting IVF I ignored the fact the clinic I chose had really poor customer care and thet made my cycle very stressful .
Ask about short / long IVF and which would benefit you and your personal history .
Add all this to the normal list and your be fine .
Make sure it's the right clinic for you and above all you have faith with your team I can tell you it makes life and IVF easier ,
Hello, sadly I have been through the same process a few years ago. I eouyssy thst it is important that you feel comfortable with the consultant and at the people (nurses) who will follow you during the treatment. This hopefully will make things less stressful. I would ask: do they need to do further investigation and if yes what and when? what type of treatment they are thinking to give you, when can you start? What are the side effects of the drugs. If you have a problem who can you ring? Is there counselling support available. Are they things you can’t do or eat during the treatment?... the list isn’t exhaustive but they are the questions which came to my mind and I remember asking them in the past. Good luck with your journey on yhe IVF Road. Take care. X
Hi Staceq. Good advice from the others. I do have a list of questions I could send you in confidence, if you want. Most won't be appropriate, but there may be a few you hadn't though to ask. If you email me at support@fertilitynetworkuk.org i will send them out. I'm here until 4pm today, then back Monday 10am. Good luck with it all. Diane
Hi Diane, I appreciate this is an old post! Would you mind if I emailed you for this list of questions please? First appointment Thursday (we’ve had most tests, but not immune or a laparoscopy to investigate our “unexplained” infertility) I desperately want to make he lost of it and not forget to ask anything! Thanks in advance ☺️
Have been through IVF last year. Luckily it was successful for me at the first attempt. My personal advice would be that first and the most important is to prepare your self physically and mentally. Take a paper and a pen, jot down all the points, questions and queries you have. Upon your first visit take a whole tour of the Clinic. Ask yourself if you are satisfied with the Clinic. Meet you doctor and ask him about your chances of success. What protocol will you be prescribed. What shall be done to avoid multiple pregnancies. Trust your guts and ask yourself if you are satisfied with the doctor. Meet the Clinic staff. Ask them who to contact in case of emergencies, what facilities do the clinic provide. Are they offering any counselling services. Pen down all the answers and read them thoroughly when you are back home. Think and decide. Wish you best of luck.
Hi dear! Try not to stress over your IVF cycles. You will be fine. Simply endeavor to make yourself OK with the earth where you are having the treatment. Be neighborly and open to advisors and the specialists. They will help you in out. Simply attempt to explore the results of solutions that they will recommend you, solicit them that in the event that from anything incorrectly will's identity mindful? What are their rates/what will be their administrations? What strategy will they take to begin your treatment? What will be the achievement rate? What's more, numerous such things that will fulfill you. Good fortunes
Hello dear! Don’t worry about your IVF cycles. You will be fine. Just try to make yourself comfortable with the environment where you are having the treatment. Be friendly and open with consultants and the doctors. They will help you in out. Just try to investigate the outcomes of medicines that they will prescribe you, ask them that in case of anything wrong who will be responsible? What are their rates/ what will be their services? What procedure they will take to start your treatment? What will be the success rate percentage? And many such things that will satisfy you. Good luck
I had the follow up with the doctor and he referred me for IVF. The first appointment is in January.
A few days after i took a pregnancy test and it came back positive. Still in shock and it hasn't sunk in. I gave up on TTC naturally, so I was preparing for IVF.
Its great to see you are going with IVF. First I would like to recommend you to check for all possible diagnosis available if you still think you want to go with it then go ahead. See the success rate of the clinic and try to consult with other forums and friends for the better recommendation. Ask your clinic for the proper medical checkup, ask about the success rate of IVF in your case, ask about the cost or packages & make sure you check the history of the clinic before going to it. Hope this may help you. My best wishes to you.
