I am just starting my IVF journey and had my first phone appointment today where the nurse went through the next steps - need to go in and fill out more paperwork etc. She said after this I need to go for a 'special scan' and my Husband for another semen analysis. Then after the scan and analysis we will have a consultation about a plan and prescription etc. As I was trying to write everything down and listen I didn't think to ask what is the 'special scan'? (I feel like a have been all tested out I don't know what else there is to test! haha) I'll ask when I next see them but any advice or ideas on what this is from people who have done this before would be great.

My guess would be it’s a scan to count your follicles, along with your AMH number, this helps them get a good idea of what drugs will work best for you.
I would imagine she is taking about a transvaginal ultrasound scan which is when they put a slim probe into your vagina (its usually done gently and shouldnt hurt) to look at your uterus and ovaries......in IVF we joke its called the "dildo cam". Ha ha ha Honestly nothing to worryabout! Best of luck.xx
Hahaha dildo cam! I know the one you mean. Thanks for the response! Put my mind at ease. I wish they would just say what it is instead of 'special scan'.
Hi Rain. Just to check follicle count I would imagine. Try not to worry, as there's nothing particularly special. Does help with prescribing medication amounts. Good luck! Diane
There is no special scan, they literally scan to have a look at the thickness of your lining and see if there is anything else causing an issue like polyps
