hi,

my husband is 37 and he has sperm with low speed and some abnormality, our main problem for pregnancy and cause our ivf failed 2 times.

is there any advise to make sperm quality and speed better?

it's hard to believe that ivf can't respond and fail again.

Hi fragole, I am going through ICSI for similar reasons my DH whos 30 has abnormal sperm and they tend to dart in different directions instead of swimming straight, his sperm count it normal. After 7 years ttc I have honestly spent weeks researching and as of yet I haven’t found anything that helps this, if you find something please let me know.

We’re on our second cycle, our OTD is tomorrow! I’m so so worried as have had BFPs for a couple days but started spotting yesterday (no pains). And my lines haven’t got any darker on my tests!

Best of luck with your fertility journey, don’t give up xxxx

Hi - there was a post on here recently from a lady whose husband had improved his sperm massively (to the point they were doing 50/50 ICSI and IVF on their current cycle). I'll see if I can find it for you. You can do a lot with diet etc, if OH is up for it...!!! x

Although our main reason for IVF was my only tube left being blocked my husband was borderline as to whether they would do ICSI instead of IVF. He started taking wellman conception every day and I put more veg in his diet. Reducing alcohol consumption and definitely no recreational drugs. He was also exercising more and stopped using the sauna at the gym.

When we went for egg collection and he did his sample they said it had improved from about 4% motility and morphology to about 14% and were happy to go with IVF. We were worried the eggs wouldn’t fertilise but thankfully all those that should have did which was only 4. Amazingly 3 of them made it to blastocyst and I got a BFP on Friday. I did a lot to make sure my diet and lifestyle were the best they could be too.

All the best for some better results. I heard of another lady on here recently that found out her husband had an infection which they hadn’t realised and they don’t normally test for.

Good luck xxx

Our clinic recommends either condensyl or menevit as complete vitamin/mineral supplements to improve sperm quality. Have a look online, they're expensive but come highly recommended.

Hello) I'll try to answer your question. my ex-boyfriend had such a problem. But we broke up. But do not think that for this reason. no. He just cheated on me ... If the poor quality of sperm is not due to organic disorders, it can help improve its quality, multivitamins, abstinence from alcohol, nicotine, stress and high temperatures (sauna, hot tubs, sun tanning, solarium), at least for the time of planning. Our doctor told us this.

Also, when I studied this problem, I read an interesting fact. The results of studies in China confirmed the effect of L-carnitine on men with asthenospermia. Half of the men in this study received 2 grams of L-carnitine each day with vitamin E, and the other half received only vitamin E. In those who took L-carnitine, the number of mobile sperm increased from about 29% to 45%.

Probably more indicative is that the number of pregnancies in this group was about 31%, compared to 3.8% recorded in the group taking only vitamin E.

This is not the only study that proves that L-carnitine has the potential to improve the motility of sperm. Another study showed that 3 grams of L-carnitine per day increased the proportion of sperm that have normal mobility.

Other nutrients that have been tested and found promising in the fight against male infertility include vitamin C and zinc. It is proven that vitamin C can help prevent sperm clumping, as well as increase the percentage of normal sperm. It is necessary to take it 500 milligrams twice a day.

Another tip that can help improve the quality of sperm, do not wear your husband tight underwear. Sperm production, as a rule, increases at lower temperatures. Therefore, the testicles are contained in the scrotum outside the body) with pendular movements of the testicles. That is why birth spikes are observed in the spring and autumn.

The rest of the drugs are used only according to the doctor's prescription, depending on the disease you have identified.

The composition of sperm affects everything - from nutrition to behavior, even the slightest stress can lead to the complete disappearance of sperm. Do not despair, adjust the lifestyle of your husband and let him retake the analysis of the spermogram in 2-3 weeks and only after 2-3 days of abstinence from sexual activity.

I hope that I helped you at least a little. These are the most common tips, perhaps you already know about these studies. But when my former boyfriend and I studied this problem, we found that many men adhere to these tips. I mean exactly those men who have this problem.

Many men even in such cases refuse to take medications. But in my opinion this is not very good. If you and your woman dream of a child, then you need to follow the doctor's appointments.

And what treatments your doctor prescribed to your husband? Maybe he needs to take any medications.

i don't know why our doctor didn't give any thing to my husband and all the time said "there is no need". but we ourselves put vitamin E and C in program. that's why in second IVF we have one step in progress. in the first IVF non of embryos had good condition so we couldn't transfer but second time embryos was well but they didn't planting and IVF faied.

My husband had a vasectomy reversal 3years ago the doctor who did the reversal advised him to take a list of vitamins from Holland and Barrett. He did to start with but he worked offshore and when I was ovulating he was never how. Long story short he stoped working offshore we had a tough time with him loosing his job and other dramas too with his ex wife. We could not afford the list of vitamins from Holland and Barrett so I just got him well man pre conception. We went for icsi few weeks ago start of September his sample was not great only two eggs fertilised and one made it to transfer unfortunately resulting in a bfn. When he was on the list of vitamins from Holland & Barrett his first sample after the reversal was 1.2million then after 5months it was 13millon big difference . Our clinic told us to take well man but after our bfn I have got him back on what the vasectomy reversal doctor said to take here’s the list zinc25mg vitamin c-500mg (cod liver oil omega-3 & vitamin a&d)E-200mg folic acid 800mg selenium 200mg coq10 200mg selenium 200mg, I also give him horny weed grass and bee propolis 1000mg royal jelly vitamin d and d3 and well man pre conception I taken my bag of vitamin to a open night at a clinic in Glasgow which I am hoping to have my next cycle at spoke with the doctor he said these vitamins are all ok to take my husband now is in the process to stop smoking he is 3weeks nearly not smoking we are hoping all this will make a big difference in the next few months and hopefully in January/February we will get a better cycle with a bfp. Hi there, my dh had poor quantity and quality due to bad varicole in the groin area. I think it was <4% for quantity. We did our research and I got my husband to stop smoking (which was so so hard for him), we ate mainly organic veg and milk (especially milk which has lady hormones in it), hardly any processed food and he took the supplements zinc, selenium, L-carnitine and 1000mg vit c. Over 3-4mths before starting icsi his sperm went up to 14% quantity and his quality improved too. Out of 10 eggs collected we ended up with 9 being fertilised which resulted in 7 x 3 day good quality embies which turned into 5 x 5 day blastocysts....and I'm no youngster at nearly 37 myself! I'm now nearly 19wks pregnant after our 2nd go!! xxx
