HSG

Hi everybody - can anybody give me any advice on the HSG test? Have one coming up in the next fortnight and very worried! Is it very painful? xx

Hi, please don't be worried. I had this test a few weeks ago and it was no worse than a smear test. It was slightly uncomfortable when the speculam goes in and I felt a slight pressure and bubbling sensation when the liquid was going in, almost like the sensation of your tummy rumbling. It was all over in around 10 mins. I can only comment on my own experience and everyone is different but overall I found it relatively ok and fairly painless. Good luck xx

Mine was absolutely fine, take two paracetamol an hour before. The nurses in there where so lovely and talked me through everything, you can also watch it on a screen so that distracts you. Mine was slightly uncomfortable but not painful and I went back to work afterwards xxx

HSG for me felt like period pain that got more intense as the dye went in... not pleasant.

But like others have said - all over in 10 minutes. Take some paracetamol about an hour before and you'll be more comfortable.

They can often comment on what they see right there in the radiology room!

I came out of it ok too. A bit sore but not as bad as I feared. You’ll be ok xx

This is like being tickled with a feather compared to the pain in labour lol
