HSG scan advice

Just wanted some advice or info from anyone who’s had a HSG dye scan...

Been having various tests done as it’s now been 18 months TTC. The NHS hospital have told us to find a private IVF clinic as it’s not funded where we are, and we’ve got an appointment booked with a private place next month.

The NHS have offered a HSG scan but it sounds like this will take a while to sort and get results. The clinic say if I have the scan it won’t make a difference to them as during IVF they bypass the tubes - how is this achieved?

It also seems that if I have it we lose another month TTC as it’s done before my period, no sex, must not be pregnant etc...

Has anyone had one and found it useful towards IVF? It seems very invasive, is it very painful?

I found it a peace of mind, but for unusual reasons.

I used to race cars once upon a time and has a serious crash where the race harness snapped all my tendons on my groin causing the most amazing bruising and swelling. I needed to know that my bits and pieces were ok.

I went through the NHS and wasted many months waiting for it, then many months for results... private may be the way?

Sorry this probably doesn’t help you.

It’s worth having it in my opinion because if you have fluid or scarring in your tubes this can have a negative impact on your IVF treatment so might be better to get it fixed first. It could also be a potential cause for your infertility

Thanks. I’ll talk it over with the clinic and see what / when they recommend.

It can help with trying to conceive naturally that’s why they leave you for 3 months after because it can clear your tubes making it easier to conceive x

Hiya, I had it done in April. They had a bit of trouble getting dye into left tube but got it in eventually. Wasn't too painful (except one part which is when i think he was having trouble with left tube and even then it was a short and sharp pain and over quickly) and just quite tired after. Unfortunately for us it didn't help with conceiving naturally though I have heard that:) we are now starting ivf next month. Good luck with whatever you choose xx

Thanks for that x the clinic told me that because I’m 36 they’d recommend straight to IVF rather than wait on for any more tests so I’ll speak to them on my appointment and then go from there. Good luck for next month! Xxx

Good luck with your appt and hope it helps you to make a decision :) they didn't mention to me about waiting for 3 months after hycosy,it just seemed to work out that way (unless they purposely worked it out that way and didn't tell me 🤪🤣 but when we went for appt to decide ivf dates they just asked when we wanted to start and whether there were any dates to avoid). Thanks lovley x good luck for you too! xxx
