Alcohol!

I just wanted to know what you girls think about drinking while ttc?! I've always enjoyed a glass of wine or two (especially with a roast dinner!) and although I cut back lots while we've been ttc, I didn't give it up altogether as I wanted to maintain some of my life throughout this difficult journey!

I've started the meds for my ICSI so have now given up completely but I have a hen do coming up and am a bit worried about it. I just can't cope with my friends assuming I'm pregnant if I don't drink but don't really want to have a drink and then worry about it affecting my chances of a successful first cycle. I'm thinking about not going but fertility issues have taken so much from me already and I don't want to let me friend down either!

Any advice? Do you think if I had one or two drinks it would have a big negative effect? (We're meant to be gin tasting!)

Personally i think is really regret it if it didn't work and so wouldn't. You want to give yourself the best chances. Can't you just say you're on antibiotics - you could say you had a massive bite on the back of your leg and had to get some antibiotics from the doctor to stop it gonna septic. That happened to me recently and it happened to coincide with a boozy picnic so it was a perfect excuse. Xx

That's funny you say that as an excuse as that happened to me too! And I was with the girl who's hen do it is at the time so she would definitely accept it!

And you're right, I'll feel guilty and awful if it doesn't work anyway especially if I've done anything that might hinder my chances.

I need to just learn to be selfish at the moment!

While we went through stimulated IUI, we both gave up caffeine, alcohol and took supplements. I also had a hen do and was honest but vague and said we were undergoing fertility treatment....no one asked more or questioned it! I stocked up on Becks blue and non alcoholic bubbly to feel like I was joining in! Good luck! Xx

Actually that's a good idea to get some non alcoholic bubbly!

Thank you x

Have you checked the paperwork that comes with the drugs? It would say if you had to avoid alcohol. Maybe ask your clinic for their advice? I was initially very strict with myself when we first started TTC and I was going crazy every month when it didn't happen. I decided that I couldn't carry on stressing myself out and continued my life as if I wasn't trying. I don't really drink much alcohol but if I wanted to go out or have a glass with a meal I did. It really helped me psychologically to carry on as normal. If I was ok to drink on the drugs and was yet to have an ET then I would still have 1 or 2 at the hen but not binge. That's me personally, I'm sure many others would disagree. My friend found out she was pregnant at 20 weeks. She was TTC but had a period every month. She had a few drinks and has a perfectly healthy baby girl. Xx
