Feeling frustrated after hospital follow up

So we had our follow up with the consultant at the hospital today to go over all that happened and to get the results of the chromosomal testing that we done!

Alter running nearly an hour late, we finally got seen and even then (after 4 months) they didn't have all the information they needed and were waiting on the phone to speak with another consultant!

Basically she drew us some lovely diagrams on a scrap piece of paper to show where the abnormalities were (as if we didn't know this already) - I feel this was to fill time whilst the midwife was hanging on the phone.

She then told us that there were not enough "materials" to do any chromosomal testing, but not to worry as it was purely "academical" and that they are 100% sure that due to it being a "body stalk defect" that is wasn't caused by anything other than a fluke! She then went on to say that we opted-out of a post-mortem which would of been useful.........um we were never given the option of a post-mortem and I honestly didn't even think at 13 weeks there would be enough to do that so I didn't question it! She did seem visually shocked when I told her we were not offered it!

So after waiting over 4 months for a follow up, we are no better off now than what we knew at the time!

Luckily we didn't wait for this appointment to get our next round of IVF started, I would of been livid if we had!

Anyway, just needed a mini rant!!

Just waiting for AF to make an appearance so we can start round 2!

Big love and prayers to all :) x

I found out follow up appointment wasn't really that helpful, after we had a bfn I had to wait 2 months to see the doctor to find out what happened but we didn't receive any answers. I think this part of the ivf process needs a lot more time and care put in by the NHS.

I'm sorry you didn't get any answers but fingers crossed for round 2 🤞🏻 good luck xx

Hi taylor85. So sorry to hear that this appointment was a bit of a shambles! Try not to worry about not being offered a post mortem on your little one, as it was obvious that he/she had not developed properly when you were scanned. Goodness knows why it happens, but there is so much going on during those first 12 weeks of development, that it needs to be spot on, otherwise the problems arise. Not much consolation, but through many years of experience, I feel that this was just awful luck, and hopefully it will be a completely different picture next time. I do hope had plenty of support after your loss, as it is never easy - I know. Lets hope that AF arrives on time, and I wish you the hugest luck possible this time round. Thinking of you. Diane
