Hi

Sorry for all the questions, can someone tell me what the difference is between 3 & 5 day transfers, are 5 day transfers more successful?

I had 8 eggs, they rang today to say I have 5 left which are at 50% , what does that mean?

They will call me agin tomoz with an update and transfer day, I'm just worried if it's a 3 day transfer It will be less successful. πŸ˜•

Thanks xx

Hi Veekay80. Basically, a3 day transfer, the embies are between 4 and 8 cell stage. Maybe a bit more. 5 day transfer is when the embies have progressed to about 64 cells and are ready to pop out of their "shells" , hopefully giving you a better chance of implantation, roughly 50-60% chance of success. Thanks Diane, I really hope they make it to 5 day, do you know what they meant when they said the other 5 are at 50%? X

Hi. It maybe that they haven't divided equally so far, but that doesn't mean they won't, just a bit slow. Hope they do make it to day 5. Good luck today. Diane

As Diane said the 3 or 5 day relates to the no of days after EC/fertilisation when they are transferred into you and they will be at different stages of development. It's better for them to be transferred into their natural environment (i.e you) as soon as possible but the hospital wants to transfer the one that has the most chance of success at implanting. As the embies develop further the hospital have a better chance of telling which ones are most likely to be successful. So if you have a 3 day implant it doesn't mean that that one won't be successful, it just means that it's clear to them early on that it has the most chance of being successful.
