Hello Everyone,

I am new to all of this and just wanting a bit of advice.

Myself and my partner have been trying to conceive for over 2 years. I have visited my GP numerous times and got nowhere, I have just changed my GP and we have been referred to a fertility clinic. I have since received a letter to say I should have an appointment within 6 weeks.

My GP rang me on Friday to say I need to go for a blood test on Day 21 of my cycle and my partner will also need to go and do a semen sample. I am just wondering what will happen after this?

I had an operation when I was 18 on my ovaries as they thought I had endometriosis but in the end it wasn't that, I have had no diagnoses to say why I cant conceive.

Im just really confused into what happens next and what to expect at the clinic.

Im really grateful for any answers as I have never been through anything like this and not watching to disclose much to family and friends yet.

Thank you

Steff x

Hey hunny, I myself had a day 21 done at my GP and my husband had to give a semen analysis. After the results were we were referred to a fertility specialist at our local hospital who decided I should try IUI before trying ivf. I tried IUI and it failed twice and then I was referred to ivf which also failed. I am currently going through my self funded second ivf cycle. Ivf has worked for loads of women on this site first time, I guess I'm just one of the unlucky ones! I will say this to don't expect anything, if you have expectations you will feel hurt and upset when they done work out. As for time lines it took a year from when I initially first went to my GP to me starting ivf. When I went to the fetility specialist they performed a HSG test while I had key whole surgery to get rid of cyst as I suffer from endromesosis. So even though it took a year I did have alot of appointments etc happening in the mean time :) happy to answer any other questions. Or please read my other posts xxxx

Thank you so much for your reply.

Today is day 1 of my cycle so I have rang GP and appointment has been made, my day 21 lands on bank holiday so she said day 22 should be fine.

I totally agree with what your saying im not going to expect anything. Im just glad I have got the ball rolling and that something is starting to be done, I just want to know what is exactly wrong with either me or my partner but I guess time will tell.

Im going to read your other posts now and ill message you with any questions :)

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it and Good Luck with everything you are going threw.

Awww I understand Hun, although I have been told I have endromesosis, no one has ever told me that this issue is getting in the way of me being pregnant. It's good that you got the ball rolling earlier as hospitals and appointments take a while. All the best xxx

Hi Steff. I think with your history of surgery on your ovaries, your GP just wants to do a Day 21 progesterone blood test to check whether you are ovulating. The result should read 30 or more. The semen analysis result will also be sent to the clinic along with your blood test to save time, and will all go towards deciding what form of treatment you will need. You will still go ahead with your consultation, and any further investigations will be ordered. Hope all goes well for you, and it all ends positive. Diane

Hi,

I'm new to the site today to 😊 and I really wish I'd found it earlier!

I had exactly the same problem with my GP until I to changed surgeries and my husband and I were sent for the same tests. It helps speed everything up when you go the fertility clinic.

When I first went we both gave our medical history and I had further tests to diagnosis why I wasn't conceiving. I had a laparoscopy just over 2 years ago, followed by 7 months of clomid and had my first round of IVF last year, it feels like you are forever waiting but lots of tests and treatments are normally happening within that time.

Wishing you lots of luck for your first apt and am happy to chat about anything that might help make your journey easier x
