hi, we are having our little embryo(s) transferred tomorrow all being well and I'm just wondering if you take the advice of the professionals how many to transfer or whether it's your decision? Thanks. Xx
2 embryos or 1: hi, we are having our... - Fertility Network UK
2 embryos or 1
First of all congrats on getting this far 😊 I always took the advice of my clinic but nevertheless knew I had a right to question it or go against it.. I would say that it entirely depends on how much you trust your clinic and their expertise. If you're at two minds, have a conversation and ask them why they are recommending a particular course of action xoxo
My Clinic has a single embryo transfer policy unless aged 37+ because the risk of twins is so high and she said you don't hear the downside of having twins, premature birth etc. They did say though on day 3 if the grades were low I'd have had 2 put back then but mine were high grade so took them to day 5. Good luck it's a bizzare feeling and it took 7 times of watching the short video they'd recorded for me to see the embryo going in hope you get to see that xx
thank you. So many important decisions to make at a time when emotions are all over the place! I'm 40 so would be allowed 2 but have been naturally pregnant with identical twins but lost at 12 weeks. There's also twins in OH's family so worried that I may end up with 3 or 4 if they split after transfer. I know that's not very likely.xx
Sorry for your lost twins😕 The decision will probably go on the grading they are right before the transfer Louise, you're right though they can split again so that's a concern! I had a 3AA in the mornings check and I think they were going with that up until transfer and embryologist said we've got a 4AB now so that's the one to put in xx
There's no genetic link between twins on the male side and how likely you are to have twins. And identical twins aren't related to genetic predisposition anyway, so from that point of view it's not especially likely the eggs would split.
I'm sorry you lost your twins before :-(. I'd probably go with just one if that is what the clinic recommends.
Good luck!
Same for my clinic Sam, they won't even consider putting more than one back until I reach age 37/38 or have had multiple failed cycles xxx
Hi louisear , how exciting getting this far and having the choice of two, we were the same, they gave us the choice of having two out bk in as none of them were strong enough to freeze, obv I was only ever expecting one to go in but when they gave us the option of two it threw us lol. But the way we looked at it was we would be gifted if we have one and even more gifted if we had two and then it meant I actually had my two babies and I would have to go through it again plus the chances of 1 or the 2 sticking was better than one. Unfortunately neither stuck so we will have to go again.
I wish you all the luck in the world. And look forward to seeing your updates xxx
thanks emma-Jane. Sorry to hear you weren't successful but it sounds like you're staying positive. Stay strong and best of luck to you for that positive outcome xx
Thank you its certainly been hard but ive just got to remain positive now i've just seen your reply to someone else and that you have twins that run through the family, i myself too have twins in the family, so i can completely understand your doubt of putting 2 in. i have my fingers crossed for you as to what ever you decide xx
Its a hard call to make, i have had chemical pregnancies with 1 and 2 embryo transfers.
I would always want 2 but everyone s different.
They will only freeze really good quality embies so I wouldnt let any reasonable quality go to waste as lots of babies have been norn from embryos that are maybe not the best quality.
Whatever you decide I wish you lots of luck and love for that BFP xx
Hi
Like you I have identical twins running down my maternal side of the family (mum is a twin and aunt has had twins). Looking at what can go wrong with twins we were only happy with one transfer.
My feeling is the decision happens right before ET when you have the embrolygist, consultant and nurse all there. At our time we had one top quality embryo and two a bit smaller so the logical decision was put the top quality one in and freeze the other two if they made it. One was able to be frozen but the other one didn't make it.
Because our embryos were slow at developing, our clinic (NHS) advised us to have two transferred. But if our embryos had been better quality and blastocyst stage at Day 5, then we would have only had one embryo transferred. The NHS normally recommends single transfer to cut down on the number of twin pregnancies.
First of all..... congratulations fur getting this far, it's a tough tough tough choice for sure. We took the advise given by the clinic, however, we knew we had the last word.
We decided for two based on her age, sadly we lost one of the embies during the first few weeks and as sad as we both wer, we are so so so thankful to the powers that be, that the other attached.
Today she is 11 weeks and 6 days pregnant. Of course there is a very long way to go, but we hope all will continue to go well.
Whatever decision you make, it has to be right fur you, after all it goes without saying you'll be the one carrying fur the best part of 9 months.
thanks Sanj for your wishes. It is a tough decision to make for sure. I've already lost twins that were conceived naturally which makes me think very carefully about this decision. Perhaps the professionals will give us advice tomorrow. Best wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy and a healthy one xx
Good luck for tomorrow Louise, I hope everything goes well. I would always go for two, I just think it increases your chances but it's completely a personal choice. All the best x x x
thanks MommaBear. I've been thinking and think we'll go for two as long as it doesn't have any impact on my heath or the babies. How you're doing ok xx
I'm with MommaBear here. I had 2 transferred. Clinic gave us the choice but due to my age 39 and AMH level being low/normal we went for two. My partner was all geared up for twins! I was quite scared that both had taken 'cos the prospect of coping with twins did scare me. I'm pleased to say only one stuck and I'm 9 wks now 😊
It was a 5 day blastocyst transfer both were high grades and we froze two as well,so we were very very lucky.
All the best to you keep us updated 💕👌xx
Hi, just wondered what the outcome of your ET was as seems the thread was 5 months ago now?!...fingers crossed it was a positive outcome after your sad loss previously 🤞🏼
We had 2 embryos and transfer was yesterday so we were hoping to go for 2 as I'm 42 but when we arrived we were told only one was a full blastocyst, the other was only early blasto so they advised to just transfer the good one and wait 24hrs to see if the other one developed. I was a little disappointed but they said they could always freeze it if was good enough so that meant we would maybe have another chance at FET in the future. They just called this morning to sadly say it hadn't made it so it's all down to the one hopefully hatching inside me!
I guess you just have to leave these kind of decisions down to fate and what's meant to be will be x
Hi. If you click on the original poster's username it will take you to their page and show you all of their posts.. You will be able to read all updates and outcomes. I'm only saying this so that we don't generally open up old wounds by commenting on old threads...
I think I read earlier that you had a grade 4bc transferred? I'm currently 4+4 with a grade 4bb so not much difference between yours, although my clinic assured us it was a good quality embryo.
Good luck for the tww xx
