A small cyst...should I be worried?

Hi all,

I hope you're well. I have just been for an ultrasound as a small cyst was found last time. I've been told to ring the consultant on Friday for results. People keep saying a small cyst is nothing to worry about...but I am worried. Does anyone have any information or advice?

Hi lucylu,

I would try not to worry about a small cyst at all - most women have cysts at different times of the month and it just depends when they are picked up - there are loads of different types of cysts too - I had to start researching this as different ones have been picked up on virtually every scan I have been for (and I have been for a lot of scans over the years!) and the majority of the time they have disappeared by the next scan. The consultant will be able to advise you more on Friday but try not to worry!

All the best x

Glad to help - hope it goes ok on Friday - I have found that lots of doctors give pretty bad explanations for a lot of things that they see all the time!x

My niece had a small cyst. She even felt bad due to it, having a lower abdominal pain. She applied to the private clinic to undergo a medical examination. She had TU test.

Dr said that cyst’s size wasn’t abnormal and it would disappear during her periods. In case if it doesn’t happen he will have to take recommended hormonal meds.

It didn’t sound as too serious problem. But we have to distinguish the types of cysts there are several of them.

Hey, I had a small "simple" cyst and nobody was too worried, it was 2.5cm. They said they can disappear after a period & wouldn't do anything unless it was more than 5cm. Mine didn't disappear but it didn't cause me any problems & they drained it at egg collection when they were there! I'm sure you'll be fine, try not to worry.xx

Thank you for your response. The first scan showed a small cyst so hopefully it won't have got any bigger. It's always helpful when people share their experiences as sometimes it feels like you're so alone in it all.

Hey, I had a small cyst when I went for my down reg scan, I think about 2cm. They said not to worry and that most people have cysts that come and go. They took some bloods to make sure it wasn't interring and I was good to go!

Fingers crossed yours is nothing to worry about :) xx
