Just had egg collection yesterday and I'm having tomorrow off as still in a bit of pain but I really need to have some time off more long term as it's all just a bit much to go through as well as work (I'm a teacher). Can anyone tell me what they said to their doctor as I don't quite know how to word things?!
Thanks!

I went to see my doc on thurs, EC was wed, told him I was having difficulty coping emotionally because of the week I'd had and that I couldn't face being in work next week. He signed me off for a week as I wasn't sure if my transfer would be happening or not. He has said he will sign me off for another week if needed. He put stress related on the note, but my boss is aware of what's happening anyway. Just be honest with your doc, they'll understand xx
You GP should understand. As soon as I mentioned IVF, she said how long do you need. I took 3 weeks and that covered me for the whole process. Just found it easier as on the run up to EC I was being scanned every few days. She just put it Gyn issues on the sick line x
Hi I self certed for the 1st week (EC/ET) then gp signed me off for 2 weeks under 'fertility treatment' as work know I was doing ivf, classed as high risk for miscarriage so in total the different gp's have signed me off for 5 weeks now, got another app Tuesday will see if ok to go back or some more time off, I get paid full pay for 11 weeks sick so I'm just going with docs advice n giving little embie best chance, taking it easy while I can. You just got to do what's best for you hun as everyone is different. Hope all goes well on your journey xx
Can I just say I totally know how you feel. I too am a teacher and it is so hard to take the time away from school or teach when you are pumped up with hormones. I timed my ivf cycle with the summer hols so I didn't have to face work but I will say take as much time off as you need. You must put yourself first xx
Good luck with your cycle, hope you have a lovely doctor that signs you off. I didn't have much luck with my but I went before to chat about it as I don't start my cycle till hopefully next month xx
I have done 3 cycles with minimum time off and always felt horrendous in work, so this time having 2 weeks off my GP was more than happy to sign me off xx
I actually took the whole week off after my EC and I think your employer and doctor should understand. EC is more than just a procedure. It is an operation really and you need to rest and recuperate. Don't worry about your job. Work will always be there and your health should come first. I self certified myself as recovering from IVF treatment and my boss seems fine with that.
My gp gave me a month off no worries and wrote debility as reason. I just said I was struggling emotionally. I have never had time off either and felt guilty and she reminded me that I was entitled to paid sick leave and had worked for over a decade with no sick leave so it was my right to have paid leAve if needed. Good luck xxx
Normally they base it on emotional stress I think so saying u aren't coping should probably be enuf! I start crying every time I c the doctor anyway so it's always been quite easy for me! Think he signs it just to get me out of his office!! Good luck xxx
