DAY 21 bloods do or dont

Hello everyon

I hope evryone is okay and doing well. Just need some advice. Im on round one clomid and i have a period everymonth but are 2-3 days early and late. My dr wants me to do a blood test on day 21 to chk if i ovulated. Should i do it on day 21 or wait a couple ofdays.xxxx

Hi, I would stick with what the doctor said this time but you could raise the question with them. My cycle is always longer, so Day 21 is too early for me to test, I recently did a Day 26 test instead. Good luck

Hi, it totally depends on when you ovulate. Day 21 progesterone test is based on the ideal cycle of 28 days, where ovulation occurs halfway through, on Day 14. If you have PCOS or just slightly longer cycles, then having this test done on Day 21 is not strictly correct. I have a 32 day cycle and ovulate on Day 18/19...therefore getting the test done on the 21st day is too early. I spoke to a consultant who said it was better to then go a week before my period was due, so Day 24 or 25.

I hope that makes sense. If you go too early, (or too late) your results will be off.

Good luck with the Clomid! Are uou on 50mg or 100mg?

PS I do agree with GinaS...perhaps follow the 21 day test this time but then discuss it with your doctor.

Thanks countrycat forur reply. Ur right day 21 might be to early for me but saying that on cd 14 follicle scan sghowed i had a follicle of 23mm so it must have realsed way before cd 21 so mayby i should do the blood work on cd 21 sorRy forgot to mention the follicke thing.Im on 100mg clomid. How about dear where about are you with ur journey.xx

That does clarify things a bit I was being treated through the NHS and my doctor performed no monitoring or scans for the 6 months I was on Clomid, I just got the monthly blood test.

I hope the 100mg is not too hectic...I responded to 50mg so stayed on this dosage for the duration. I did ask if I could go higher but was definitively told no. I did have side effects, mostly headaches and insomnia but nothing I could not cope with. How are you doing?

Sadly, Clomid did not work for me and I am hoping to undergo self-funded ivf next year. Sadly too old for any further NHS treatment.

I didnt get a an option i was just prescribed and the prescription came through the post. I was very teary when i started taking it. I have noticed that i dont get bad headace anymore which is plus for me. Im waiting to test. af should arrive on Christmas day. I just dont want to test and rather wait for af. I just have a feeling im not preggers i keep telling myself that. N im convinced that af will be late cuz i keep thinking about it.xxx

Its strange some clinic provide scan to monitor follicles and others dont its just not fair. I had to pay for my first scan becuz of unforseen circumstances and it give me a peice of mind as i knew that the follicle are growing n how big they r n that gave me an idea when ill ovulte.it was expensive but it was worth it. I reallly pray that things work out for u and for everyone on here

GinaS thanks for ur reply u have a valid point mayby just do it on day 21 and get it done n over with and bring the martter up when next see the dr. Becuz follicle size was 23mm on cd 14 by cd 21 i would have ovulated every step we girls take have to think over it so many times things are just not stright forward on this journey.xxx
