Tea and IVF

Hi everyone,

I am a massive tea drinker 8 cups a day!). We are hoping to start our 1st IVF cycle in around 2 weeks so I have switched to PG tips decaf tea. Does anyone know if this is ok or should it still be limited/not at all?

Thanks everyone,

Vicky x

Hi spongy, my consultant advised no more than 1-2 caffeine drinks per day. De-caf is fine to drink in higher volumes xxx

I'm really struggling to keep the caffeine down too. Decaf tea is fine but weirdly has cholesterol implications, so if you can cope with herbal tea to replace some of those 8 cups it might be an idea.

I miss my caffeine too. I would normally have 3-5 coffees and a couple of teas a day... I have switched to decaff coffee except for the morning one and one tea a day...

Hi Vicky

I drank de-cat during our round of IVF. I had a couple of cups of regular tea while I was down regulating (e.g. At a wedding we were at) but after that I was quite strict with myself!

Good luck x

Hi Vicky, I use clipper organic decaff teabags whilst doing treatment as I find it hard to cut down. They sell them in sainsburys xx

I ll recommend this article to be more aware of which decaf to buy.

I switched to rooibus tea, tastes pretty similar to tea but no caffeine. Good luck with your cycle xx

Hi Vicky

A friend of mine at work- swapped coffee for Chicory coffee- she said it was not nice at first, but it was ok afterwards. she said for de-caf they use chemicals to strip it out and didnt recommend it to me. Her first IVF was a success!

Thank you all so much for the replies! I'm so glad I'm not alone in thinking this is a very important thing! Tea is like my comfort blanket.

I am so grateful everyone xxx

I loved my tea but had already switched to drinking decaf about a year before treatment purely because I was trying to cut out on caffeine and sugars to try and conceive naturally. That didn't work but I kept up with the decaf. I've finished my 1st ivf cycle and am now 7 weeks 1 day pregnant 😀. The only thing is that I now can't stand to drink tea. I'll maybe drink half a cup but ive gone off the thought of drinking it whereas I used to drink 5-6 cups a day haha Xx

I am exactly the same with tea now. I used to drink loads but now the thought makes me feel quite ill! x
