Gonal F injection...advice please

Hi everyone, I'm not sure what to do. Tomorrow night is our office Christmas party. This was arranged back in the summer when hubby and I just started going to the clinic for tests and back then we didn't know when the treatment was going to start. I really need advice on how to do my injection while I'm at the party. I can do it in the toilet but not sure how to keep the drug cold?? If I take a cool bag people would ask questions. And the other thing is my husband always does the injection as I'm not good with needles. So I am also nervous about doing it myself. Maybe I should cancel but don't know what excuse I can make. Xx

Request them to put it in the fridge behind the bar? Ring ahead to confirm that you’ll need to do this, and that it will be ok, and just tell them it’s necessary medication. Xx

I wouldn’t go. Any excuse will do! Husband has man flu and needs looking after? Transport problems? Not feeling well? Don’t feel guilty for making something up, ask yourself which is more important?

Also, just in case you do go, ask your clinic if room temperature is ok for the injection for a few hours, I’m sure lots of people must take their injections at work.

It might be worth asking your clinic if you can take it early?

I was able to do my injections 2 hours earlier than normal when I went to the athletics in London In the summer (we did look a bit weird using a disabled toilet to do it as I made my partner do the injections for me!!) xx

Does your injection need to be at the same time each evening? It might be worth asking your clinic if it would matter if you delayed it an hr or two so you could do it when you get home, or do it early so that your hubby can bring it with him and you don’t have to worry about carrying it round all evening.

When I had to take my trigger shot at a specific time I was away that day and knew I would be off the train in time but wouldn’t be able to get home so my hubby met me off the train and then we both went into the disabled toilet at my work and did the injection. Have you got a disabled toilet you could use so your hubby can help?

I’m not sure what time you normally do your injection but if you can do it an hour earlier and still go to the party without worrying then I’d do that - my clinic said an hour earlier/later was okay for one evening.

Otherwise I probably wouldn’t go, the anxiety for me would be to much xx

If you haven’t injected yourself I would cancel. You will be anxious anyway and don’t want to mess up and stress about it xxx

Check with your clinic but I was told once you've started using it it doesn't need to stay in the fridge. I actually had to take mine into the clinic one day as there was an issue with it and I said about putting it in the fridge at work as was told it would be fine. Double check but I'd take it, do it in the toilet and enjoy your party. X

Just to point out that gonal f comes in different forms eg premixed pens and solutions you have to mix yourself. if unsure about yours, ask any pharmacist and they should be able to look it up and give you advice. Don’t just assume that because someone else’s drug is ok out of the fridge, yours will be too.

In my cycle in Jan this year, I used Gonal F and was told it didn’t need to be refrigerated at all. So I used it when out etc no problem

I now have a beautiful baby boy!

Good luck x

Maybe your hubby can come down to the party and meet you somewhere so you can do it in the car? He can bring it in a cool bag. You can just tell your colleagues he forgot his keys or something.

Hi everyone. Thank you for all your kind reply. I decided to go to the party last night as I needed something to keep my spirits up (my mood swings have been pretty bad since starting Gonal F). Hubby kindly offered to meet me outside the restaurant where the party was. I just told my colleagues that I had to meet him outside to give him some cash as he'd forgotten his wallet and he was going out with his mates. I quickly got in the car and we drove to a street nearby where it was quiet and dark. He was very good and remembered to bring everything in a cool bag. We quickly did it but then realised there was a cctv camera! Oh dear....We must look very dodgy in the camera 😆 Anyway....I managed to get back to the party within 10 minutes. Thanks again for all your advice....it had given me something to think about. Xx
