Why do I get period pain 7DPO?

I'm hoping one of you lovely ladies can put my obsessing mind at rest. I always get period pain 7DPO (I have some grumbling right from 1DPO, but it peaks around day 7). I always assumed this was a sign that my period was going to start, but I don't understand why it would take a further 7 days from this pain until AF arrival?

I always start with period pains two weeks before.

Hi seekingpeace. I would have thought that the pain you are experiencing is just down to your womb lining (endometrium) building up before your period. It also maybe down to your ovary repairing itself after ovulation, or you could have an ovarian cyst, I don’t know. I think if you are particularly worried about it, you need to see your GP to get it investigated. Hope it all settles down soon. Diane

Thanks Diane, you've really helped. I was really just hoping that it wasn't a sign my period was starting. I think you're right about it being progesterone surge in the hope of preparing the womb for implantation. Fingers crossed x

I always get PMT symptoms around 5-7DPO too, then nothing til AF arrives roughly 7 days later.
