Nervous... full of anticpation... IVF referral abound.

Hi. My husband and I have our IVF referral appointment on Friday. I am fairly confident there will be no problems being accepted as I have had great communication with the fertility nurse over the past two years. We have tried two rounds (6 months each) of Clomid with no joy. Husband's sperm count was low at the last test but the doctor at the time jokingly said 'we only need one'.... hmmph. Well, I tried to forget about his blase attitude to our situation but thankfully he's no longer in post.

I know there are lots of us out there going through similar things and it's good to know that if I come on here and waffle it's understood and not seen as 'silly female neurosis'.

Thankfully my husband is very supportive and equally as emotional about it but we don't always talk about it as we just don't want to become obsessed.

Anyway, I'm going to keep an eye on here to see others' success stories to boost my mindset and confidence :-)

Good luck! My husband and I also went through 2 rounds of chlomid and despite various tests we were still diagnosed with unexplained infertility! We started ivf end july 2013 and im now 23 weeks pregnant! Stay upbeat and when you need to scream or cry just go with it.

That is brilliant news. It's so frustrating when you are trying to do the right thing and there is 'no explanation'.

What was your IVF treatment like? I hear it can be quite different depending on where you are/who you are...

In total our treatment took about 8weeks from 1st injection to positive pregnancy test. I had a prostap injection to shut my ovaries down and then quite a heavy bleed and a scan to check my lining was thin. Then I had 12 days of gonal-f injections, a final "trigger" injection 36hrs before egg removal and 5 days later had the embryo transfer. The hardest part for me was waiting 2 weeks before I could test....but it was all totally worth it!

Wow. That fills me with hope! I am starting to get my head around the drugs/injections and what they're for. The nurse today was brilliant explaining things and the infertility.co.uk website is useful. I was a bit naive going into it originally which is why we held off as I didn't know what to expect. But now I feel better informed and a bit more in control (well, my body is in control as it all depends on the effects of the drugs!).

It's amazing to think that when the embryo is transferred you're technically pregnant: waiting 2 weeks will be hard for me too!!!!

So pleased for you :-)

Just waiting for an apointment with Bourne Clinic... fingers crossed we still meet the criteria and we get an appointment next month.

I am more hopeful as we have no major health worries - it is like your story: unexplained infertility! Just so so frustrating!

I'll let you know how I get on.

How are you??

So excited for you! I'm doing really well, feel like my baby bump is bigger every day! Make sure you write down any questions before your appointment, I got so overwhelmed I forgot everything I wanted to ask lol. X

Oh I'm glad everything going okay with you. The more people I speak to who have had IVF for the same reasons as us it's nearly always successful first time around! I am trying NOT to get too excited but... almost impossible :-)

Thanks for advice... !

Your story moved me, how lovely you can talk about it. I'm in a similar situation as my partners was low too, we didn't have a chance for clomid as I'm not always releasing eggs on a regular bases. We are on the waiting list for IVF they said they will do one more test for him to see if his sperm count has improved because he has been taking well man conception as recommended. Waiting game! we tried for 4 yrs. best wishes to you both and keep positive I will do the same. Xxxx

We are three years in of trying (some months harder than others!): no one can accuse us of jumping into things! We are ready for our family to grow now and waiting is not always my strong point but we have no choice.

I am learning to be much more relaxed about it all and taking each day as it comes. x

Hi,good luck with your referral, how long does the process of being accepted for Ivf take?ive got a referral for fertility treatment next month and I'm excited to start.i see that you had two rounds of Clomid and it didn't work.i was given it over four years ago(I have pcos) and it didn't work.by some miracle I got pregnant and had a little boy.after that my periods were ok and December 2012 I got pregnant again but I had a miscarriage.we ve been trying since then to conceive but as my periods have more or less gone there's not much chance.is there different dosages of Clomid and from your experience do you think they'll try me with it again?i just wanted to ask someone who's been through these things.x

We first registered with fertility clinic April/May 2012 but we had a break during summer 2013. We could have been referred for IVF December last year but we were given another chance on clomid. We live in Norfolk and at the moment you have to have been trying for 3 years before you qualify for IVF (amongst other factors). It varies from county to county so I couldn't say how long your treatment/referral will be.

My husband and I were just saying that although written down that seems like a long time it didn't feel like it.

We're just grateful that we've met the criteria and providing one last blood test is ok we are good to go for IVF. The bonus is we have a clinic 5 minutes away from where we live...

Keep in touch x

Blood tests done. Final semen analysis in the bag... now we wait for referral to be accepted. Still no joy on Clomid for last two months but I am not surprised. What is frustrating is that there is NOTHING wrong with me or my husband. I am not overweight. We have no health issues. We just can't get pregnant.

I am now hoping the clinic accept our referral and we get an appointment next month. Maybe a nice birthday present for my 35th....!
