Anyone out there has any positive experience of pregnancy following laparoscopy and clomid? I am going to take the first clomid tomorrow.

Don't know whether it is the right decision to take another 3 months to try clomid according to NHS doctor after a recent lapa, or just book a private IVF straightaway. Can I afford to be patient after trying for 2 years at the age of 38? recent AMH is 8.6 and fsh levels fluctuates from 13.6 to 15. I wish i can have a plan and then stick to it. Help please!

I am not at peace with the decision making process. Should I give nature three more months' trial before moving into IVF resolutely? Will the 3 more months' delay reduce my chance of getting successful with IVF?

Hiya, infertility is a problem among all female cousins in my family. My one cousin had few months of chlomid and she was lucky and became preggy ( she now has 2 children ) her sister had 2-3 rounds Ivf and had beautiful baby girl last year. I have one cousin who will never be able to have children and another who became preggy after having infertility treatment. I had chlomid before my first round of Ivf and chlomid for 6 months last year but we were unsuccessful as my gyne problems and hubby has downs syndrome in his genes. I hope you are successful with your chlomid.

I hope you have good luck with the chlomid. It does work for some people. Unfortunately it didn't for us but that doesn't mean it won't work for you. It is worth a try and if it doesn't work then Ivf.

IF you think you will be eligible for any free IVF, I'd go for it now. I've had months wasted on Clomid and got nowhere. I'm now almost 40 and stuck between a rock and a hard place. Ultimately, it's up to you and your partner but if you're feeling worried already, I'd say IVF is worth investigating. Also, how about the semen analysis; is that ok? If so, would IUI work? the whole thing makes me anxious, including clomid, ivf and loss of time. i don;t know i feel like i am dragging it on and just hope i can get pregnant naturally. partner has low sperm counts but good mobility. did not consider iui because of low success rate. the social criteria on NHS ivf disqualifies me because partner has a daughter who is living with ex. we have to go down the private ivf as it appears. i am anxious sometimes because i dont know what to say to work colleague if i would take time off for ivf...sign...

Hiya I've had one round of chlomid and fell pregnant but sadly lost it at 6 weeks due to my hormones, I'd give it a chance then try ivf, good sign is your hubby does have a child from previous relationship, wish you luck for the future x

Hi sunflowers. Clomid has often been the first treatment of choice. It has been around for many years now, and has given some good results. We used to give 3 months of Clomid, followed by a lap and dye test to check the tubes, then if they were OK, another 3 months of Clomid back to back. This was the most “natural” way as it were. All I would say, is to keep an eye on your hormone levels, and should they alter much, then perhaps go for the IVF/ICSI. Perhaps have another chat with your consultant in order to decide on a plan, as you now say that your husband has a motility problem with his sperm. This would then rule out IUI, as there probably would not be enough good motility sperm to use. Kind regards Diane

Hi Diane, I was prescribed on the low dosage of clomid and just had my scan following taking it for the first month. Consultant was a bit disappointed that only 2 potential follicles can grow into eggs as seen through the scan. I was then tested for protesterone level one week after ovulation. Don't know when I am likely to get a result. You mentioned that I need to keep an eye on my hormone levels. What does that mean? What figures should I look out for? Many thanks, Sunflowers

Thanks Diane, interesting thing is that I was given clomid after lap and dye test , not the other way around. Lapa has cleared something away so I suppose I should give natural conceiving another try for the next 3 months. Sometimes I find it difficult to quiet down another little voice in my head saying' you are wasting your time which you do not have'. : ( husband has low sperm count but very good mobility.

Hi Sunflowers. Referring to hormone levels. The test you mention is called a “Day 21 progesterone test”. This is done as it says, on Day 21 of your menstrual cycle, and tells you whether you have ovulated that month. A normal reading should be over 30. The other one to check is for your FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). This is done on Day 2 or 3 or your period and should be between 2 and 10. This is the hormone you need to stimulate the follicles to grow on your ovaries to enable eggs to get in. Regarding the lap and dye test you had, it is more common to have that done first before using Clomid these days, I just mentioned how it used to be done. Try and keep positive as there are other treatments apart from Clomid to try. Kind regards Diane

thanks, Diane. We have decided to give Clomid a try for 3 months before making a firm decision for IVF/ICSI. We are now writing a funding request letter for GP, but ultimately if we have to pay for it we would probably go for it.
