small CRL first scan

Had my first scan at 5w6d yesterday (more so to exclude ectopic as I’ve had several previous) post successful 5 day FET. the paperwork they have given me said CRL is only 2.9mm and looking at journals and reference tables in books/clinical guidelines and research, this is considered much smaller than it should be.

I know it’s very early but according to my reading and research , CRL is considered pretty accurate at the 6 weeks mark onwards. And my scan was only a matter of hours before this! They are going to rescan in a weeks time and hopefully see some growth then. They also said there was a tiny heartbeat and yolk sac etc but the thing that worried me was the CRL as that is what I’ve found to be off. They didn’t say anything in the clinic but I guess there isn’t much to say until next weeks scan.

I guess I’m just spiralling and wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with similar numbers and willing to share outcome, good or bad .

seeing a tiny yolk sac and heartbeat is a really good sign at that stage and great news it’s in the right place, totally get it though if it’s measuring behind why you would be worried as with IVF we know our dates but these measurements are so tiny that the smallest of measurement inaccuracy can make such a difference to dating and why they prefer to do scans after the 7 week mark (except in situations like yours of course when there’s a chance of eptopic).

As you’ve said there isn’t much you can predict until next scan but seeing a heartbeat really does increase the chances so got my fingers and toes crossed for you! Xx

Hey, at my 6 week scan I was 6 weeks and 1 day and the CRL measured 3.5mm and they said it was on the smaller side. Had to wait a week for my next scan which was like a lifetime but next measurement was 10mm so was on track! And now 19 weeks with baby measuring 3 days ahead.

Measurements are so small even 1mm can throw the dates off.

Hope everything goes ok for you xx

Hello, thank you for your message- I read it and actually wrote a reply and forgot to send 🤦🏻‍♀️ I had a scan yesterday 1 week after first , they said it was all fine again…. Now 7.9mm at 6weeks 6 days…. So increase of 5mm.. my brain hurts trying to figure out if that’s ok 😩 I really am a tortured soul! Pleased to hear eveything turned out good for you. It is always good to hear positive outcomes xx
