Hi all! After a very difficult birth, including a three week NICU stay, I was very fortunate to have a beautiful baby boy. As part of the hospital investigation into the birth it has come to light that I had a variety of issues, including:
- hypercoiled umbilical cord
- umbilical with velamentous insertion
- acute chorioamnionitis
- a Babdls ring in my uterus
Quite frankly it seems a miracle that my baby survived! The NHS have been very unsupportive, and I’m desperate to discuss the above issues and learn if they are reoccurring and likely to impact any subsequent pregnancies.
Has anyone had ANY experience with any of the above issues and gone on to have a healthy second baby? And any advice of how to manage the issues?
Thank you!!

Just to say, I'm a midwife, you really should be able to have a debrief appointment normally 6-8 weeks after birth where an experienced midwife or obstetrician can go through your notes with you and explain everything. I used to do them at my hospital before moving into Safeguarding. It's really important for closure. Where in the country are you? ❤️

I’m based in SW London. Unfortunately the hospital will not do the debrief session until the investigation concludes. There’s an investigation with MNSI and both internally at the hospital. It’s been 6 months and I’m getting rather sick of waiting so your insights have been super useful - thanks again!
Hi. Well, what an awful lot for your baby to have to overcome, plus ending up in intensive care. A truly anxious time for you and his daddy too. I think the infection was probably bad luck. I was sorry that you didn’t receive the support you should have done from the NHS in such circumstances.. careful monitoring would go towards picking up possible cord problems, then possible plams for a different birth plan would be put in place. Perhaps speak to your Health Visitor for who can help you. I hope your son is thriving well . Diane
