hi, has anyone had experience of sua or two vessel umbilical cord. It was found in my 29 week scan yesterday when everything else looked fine. I had a consultant doing the scan who said that it’s fine and 1 in 100 have it. I obviously googled it and got a bit more concerned but because the consultant literally breezed over it I didn’t think anything. I went onto my app last night and saw that I have had three growth scans booked in for 28, 32 and 36 weeks and now I’m panicking. My app also seems to have hidden half my notes
Anyone any experience?

Hi there, this is very common and in some hospitals they don’t mention or document a two vessel cord as often has no implications and just adds more stress to the parents. There are hundreds of reasons why people get growth scans too now, probably more people than not get them. They are probably doing them to give you some reassurance as well. It’s also nice to see baby. Try not to worry too much & step away from google if you can as you will always find a worst case scenario on there. All my best to you going forward.
Thank you so much! I think I would have been happier if they mentioned the growth scans at the time! Google is cruel! It also mentions that this happens more with a baby who has downs syndrome - our combined screening was higher chance so we had the NIPT which came back as lower but now I am panicking as I know it is not a diagnostic test! I think I should focus on the fact that everything looked fine on the scan and there were no major worries! it does not help that all my notes seem to have disappeared off the portal so can't see any of them! just need to enjoy the pregnancy!
Yeah, I totally get your concerns, we had a higher chance of quite a few things in our pregnancy too and thankfully none happened but didn’t stop me worrying a little bit. The NIPT is a good test so I would be as reassured as I could be with that as a non invasive test option. Everything looking fine on the scan is absolutely great news & yes focusing on that is a good plan.x Also, technical glitches with notes is not unusual so it’s probably nothing, just unfortunate coincidence to happen when you are worried about something. You could always ring them just to see if it is a glitch. Chances are it’s happened to other people too.
I was diagnosed with SUA in my pregnancy and similar to you, I also went down the Google dark hole and got myself super worried. My doctor also mentioned that he will monitor me more for risk of growth restriction and thus extra scans. But he wasn't worried. There was not much advice/ guidance available but I found one blog post of a mother who ate a lot of eggs to counter SUA and was able to have a healthy baby.
I did the same ( ate 4 egg whites daily from 18 weeks onwards). Not sure if that helped but I needed to do something about it in order to feel under control.
Ultimately, I was also able to deliver a healthy baby girl at full term.
I just wanted to say that its totally understandable to get worried about this diagnosis but if your doctor seem not worried, then you should be too. Also, if you are like me and still want to do something about it, maybe try eating eggs daily. It will definitely not do you any harm and who knows it also helps in SUA!
Thank you good to hear from someone with experience! I eat a fair amount of eggs anyway pancakes for brekkie several mornings a week! this journey never gets any easier! X
hi I had this and currently cuddling our perfectly healthy 9 week old. Interestingly I are a lot of egg sandwiches while pregnant.
It is really common apparently and no reason to not have a perfectly healthy baby. Growth scans are scheduled by default if you have a combination of IVF/Agr/weight and other factors but the good news is they will also monitor the placenta.
I asked Teo midwives about it and they didn’t know about it so cannot be too serious.
No need to stress lovely and stay away from google.
