Is the 4 month "sleep regression" for real?

Hi Mommy's, my boy turned 4 months and started to show show signs of regression 3or 4 days before that as google suggests. He is really struggling to sleep n cranky , i really have to hold him for atleast an hour sometimes more which is fine by me but my heart aches to see him cry like that.

I typically rock, shush n breast feed him to sleep for hours all at once. Yesterday, we went to see peaditrician he said this will happen as baby will have teething in sometime so gums are aching n getting prepared for teeth.

Has something helped your babies in this phase and how long does this go. When do babies start sleeping better without any discomfort. Any suggestions are welcome. I have heard about magnesium oil how effevtive is that and please share your wisdom as to what has helped your bub to relax.

A very worried and exhausted mumma

Most definitely real! It lasted about 3 weeks for us. It’s tough but remember the mantra that this too shall pass. My best advice is try not to introduce too many ‘bad habits’ as some might stick and just prolong it. If you aren’t aware, there’s a pregnancy and parenting support forum on healthunlocked (formerly NCT) that has lots more postnatal advice xx

Also, Calpol for teething if you have teething symptoms (red cheeks, drooling, slight fever). I know some advice is to just rub gums or use anbesol teething gel but I found Calpol at bedtime was essential for everyone to get some sleep! Xx
