It's the hardest thing to do - there are so many parenting memes about this, it's not just you! I found cuticle removers (like you use for manicures) the easiest but ny OH didn't like them as he said they're too sharp. Lots of people bite them off but I couldn't (felt way too weird) or I think you can get gentle filing tools that are designed for this purpose. If it's really upsetting you, see if someone else can do it - that's where we've ended up and it's now solely my OH's job and I am in charge of distraction while it's going on. x
Oh goodness i thought my question would be weird. My hubby tried doing it but it got hurt so i can't trust him anymore lol.. someone else too suggested biting them i think have to try that,i have not done that with my nails but guess have to give it a try. Could you suggest who can do this?
Are these people called by profession sorry if i may sound naive..
Nope, no weird questions on here, probably been asked a lot before! By people, I meant friends or relatives who may have been through this before and could help or show you - but I completely abdicated from nail duty in the end as I got too nervous and my OH ended up making it his thing so I haven't tried again.
Hi there, my little one has teeny tiny nails as well, I got the tommee tippee nail file which uses batteries to spin the file but is still quite gentle.
All my mummy friends have had issues with this! It's certainly not you! And everone feels guilt when they've made their baby cry! Its obvioulsy super hard!!! Try the nail file like people have suggested!! good luck x
Just letting you know that we have a parenting group for those who have become parents after a fertility journey, which includes online meetings and a WhatsApp group. If you'd like more information please feel free to email me, claire@fertilitynetworkuk.org.
I used an electric nail file with my first, but my second wouldn’t sit still for it. With him I use the baby Frida nail clippers which I find to be really easy to use and have never had an issue with them.
My stepmum’s advice as mum of 3 and grandparent of 10 was just use a basic nail file. They work just fine. Babies’ nails are fairly soft so they don’t file quite as easily as an adult’s but it’s the safest and least scary way to do it. Xx
Congratulations mama! 🥰 It is very tricky and not easy at all. We just kept trying going back to them and nail file like suggested. Or I did it when he was a little sleepy 😇
We were advised not to bite the nails as they said bacteria from your mouth could potentially cause infection around the nail.
Oh and toes nails.. my little one is now two, so he will again sit still for having them cut as he now seems to understand, but there was a period he would not quite get what we were doing and was so ticklish 😂😂 it was just impossible! Good luck!!
Hi! I have been struggling with the same issue. I just use my glass nail file, it does the trick and it's very gentle. She doesn't mind it when she is calm. Good luck!
