I went for my 16 week midwife appointment yesterday. All she did was BP and check my urine was kind of hoping she would check for babies heartbeat with the doppler but no. Is this normal?
I have a high risk pregnancy for various reasons but main one being twins so just a bit worried. The rest of my appointments will be with the consultant and I will get scanned at each. I also have a private gender scan booked next week as my NHS board don't tell you the gender!

hey. They did check my babies heartbeat at 16 weeks but there must be a reason why they didn’t check yours. Maybe consultant led? I’m consultant led too and find it’s a bit repetitive seeing midwife and consultant as they tend to do and say the same things. However, on the bright side, at least they look after you! Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy x
Thanks yes I'm consultant led too but my next appointment isn't till my anatomy scan at 21 weeks. Big gap between 13 and 21 weeks so was worried. I have my gender scan on Saturday so hopefully that will put my mind at ease.
My midwife said that at 16 weeks it is still early so a heart best can't always be heard. She did do mine and found a heart beat, but she did say of she didnt find one she wouldn't be sending me to the hospital but if this was later on then she would. Honestly don't worry, you will definitely hear it at ypur next appointment. X
Hi, I think it really varies these days. My midwife didn't do it at the 16 week appointment either (I was also classed as high risk due to age). However, when I first saw my consultant around then, he did listen to it 🤷♀️ xx
Honestly, i really relied a lot on private scans. I was very very anxious, got easier after the 20 week scan, but I found private scans very helpful. Keeping everything crossed for you xx
