Dark brown spotting / discharge at 34.5 weeks, really worried

Hi ladies,I'm 34 weeks and just felt a bit of discharge come out and when I went to the toilet it was dark brown. I called the midwife and they said to put a pad on and monitor it as it's prob old blood and to come in if it turns red or active bleeding but I'm really worried, just don't need to be seeing that colour when pregnancy right!? Do I just go in anyway? Has anyone else had this?

Hello, I've had brown spotting and discharge throughout my pregnancy. I got it checked out when it first happened and it turned out I had a small cervical polyp. The consultant said this will happen throughout the pregnancy and not to worry. I think you will be okay as long as it's not too much blood. Anything more than a spoonful of blood I would probably ring triage.

Thank you, needed some reassurance that it can be normal! It wasnt much, probably not even enough to fill a panty liner so fingers crossed it's all fine. Hope your pregnancy is going well other than the spotting! x

Could just be due to hormone changes - if you feel uncomfortable and the discharge gets smelly let your midwife know Hopefully it will settle down

Thanks Janet. I'll keep an eye on it for now, it seems to be easing, just worrying seeing that colour and not knowing the cause!
