brown/ yello mucus discharge 29 weeks

It’s been a whilst since I posted. Pregnancy has touch wood so far been going really smoothly

im at 29 weeks today according to hospital scanning / 28w2days according to ivf dates

And over the last 2 days I’ve been getting at night a brown/ yellow mucus discharge when wiping. No more than 5x5mm in dimension. It’s jelly like. We had just taken a mini staycation to Norfolk 2 days prior- a 4 hour car journey each way but overall a relaxing stay. Bed wasn’t too comfy and a few pot holes on the road.

I’ve noticed in the last week or so I’ve had a massive increase in need to pee but nil burning.

I contacted the emergency number for midwife’s on Sunday eve and was advised to go to the hospital.

I’ve not had any cramps / bleeding / tightening as such - maybe a little but not regular at all and likely because I’m fixating on this issue at the moment

at the hospital they did a cervical swab

1 to check if waters broken which they haven’t

2 for infection which came back clear and

1 for PARTUS test to see if I was going to go into early labour. This came back positive but they said in the absence of other symptoms it’s likely this is a false positive

They did a urine test which on Sunday night the dipstick showed positive and 2mthe day later another urine sample was negative

They said it would take 2 days for the results of the urine sample to come back. so don’t have them back yet.

they observed me over night and I had a little more discharge but then stopped

They discharged me and then again last night a little more discharge talking no more than 3mmx3mm

I called the midwife emergency line they said it’s likely something irritating my cervical plug and can be normal.

I’m just a bit worried, and wondered if anyone else here had a similar experience or has any wisdom to shed on this.

FYI - I was told at 20 week transvaginal scan I had a low lying placenta but they would rescan at 28 weeks , at 28 weeks they did a growth scan which was trans abdominal and said the placenta was still low but they would do a transvaginal scan at 32 weeks to see if the placenta had moved away / definitively diagnose if it’s dangerously low or not.

thanks ladies hope you can help me understand this mucus issue

just to add - went to see the midwife

She’s been pretty reassuring and said it’s likely in the absence of any other symptoms it’s not pre term labour

Things can irritate the mucus plug such as infection which it isn’t / baby moving weirdly/ : more exercise than normal (which is plausible in Norfolk) anything really

She said many women have it as their bodies prep for labour in the next trimester doesn’t mean it won’t go to term and to try and relax

If I get bleeding/ contractions to go to hosp/ speak to midwife but other than that live normally and try to relax about it

Hi London_panda, just wanted to see if the bleeding was just a one off and everything still ok? I just felt some discharge come out (sorry tmi) and when I went to the toilet it was dark brown, I'm quite stressed out by it and was told to put a pad on it and if it turns red to come in but not otherwise, but obviously now I'm really stressed out and looking for some reassurance

so it was a mucus discharge which was dark brown then lightened

Not Red per say.

When I called they asked me to come in. How far along are you ?

Thanks for replying, I am 35 weeks today. I had a another bit of spotting so I just went in to get checked out, everything seems ok and they couldn't really find a cause but at least it's some peace of mind. XHope you're doing well x

thanks I reckon because I was 29 weeks and so early they were concerned hence they asked me to go in stay overnight

I imagine they’d be less concerned at 35weeks as I’ve read that a little mucus/ spotting can start 2 weeks before labour so you’d be 37 weeks

Just keep calling the midwives if you’re concerned I don’t think they mind

Good luck with the rest of pregnancy! Not long to go now for you! X
