Hi everyone, im on my 23rd week now, i have been feeling great until recently, i started having this awful palpitations especially when i lie down. I keep changing positions to ease the discomfort but nothing seems to work. I haven't had any decent sleep because my own pounding heart beat wakes me up. I dnt have any chest pain or shortness of breath, just the palpitations like i just ran a marathon or something. Is this normal? I heard fast heartbeat is expected but how do i control this because its really bothering me? Will this affect my baby? Help. 😔

Ji Babyjoaquin. Could just be hormonal or due to increased blood supply. Baby should be fine. Sopeak to your midwife if worried. Diane

Hi lovely. Sorry you are suffering with these-they’re horrible aren’t they?! I have also had problems with palpitations on and off through my pregnancy. If you tell your midwife they will keep an eye on your resting heartrate and may even order a 24-hour monitor to check all is well. I was told it’s okay so long as your resting heartrate doesn’t get too high, in which case you may be offered beta blockers for the rest of your pregnancy.

Hi, sorry to hear you're experiencing this. I had exactly the same and and currently 22.5 weeks. I went to the Dr's who did a blood test for my iron levels and thyroid. They also did an ECG. All was OK but reassuring to get it checked out. I think it was mainly due to me doing too much (the same as my pre pregnancy levels) and also the anxiety/relief of getting this far in pregnancy. My work was great and told me to take one day off a week for this month. I have found that extra rest day really helps so maybe worth seeing if it is an option for you? I also put magnesium body butter on before I lie down which I find really relaxes my muscles. I hope you feel better soon as know how draining not sleeping and heart palpitations can be

heya,

Sorry you’re experiencing this. I’m almost 19 weeks and went to GP about a week and a half ago. I had really bad palpitations and a very fast resting heart rate. I was feeling really terrible in the evenings- foggy headed and exhausted. I had some bloods done and an ECG. All this made it go up as I was so anxious. They basically said that my iron was low, even after taking extra. I’ve felt much better since having all the tests and am trying to eat iron rich food.

I would get in touch with your GP or midwife just so they can check. The more you worry about it the more it will stay high. I became so aware of it and just lay there worrying about it at night. During pregnancy it does best a bit faster than normal but they will want to make sure everything is fine.

Wishing you all the best and I hope you get some answers xxx

Hello,

So sorry to hear this and they can be quite worrying. I went through this on and off during my pregnancy in the second and third trimester. After speaking to GP and midwife who said all was fine, with time I just learned to manage it. I took time out and laid down if it got really bad. I was told to contact health services if my resting heart heart got over a certain threshold. I can’t remember what that was now. I had an Apple Watch so monitored my resting heart rate as and when I needed to.

Your baby will definitely not be affected but do speak to your midwife if you are worried. All the best x
