Day 1 expressing colostrum… nothing at all!

Hi! So I made it to 37 weeks and tried to express colostrum twice (different times), but absolutely nothing came out. Did anyone have this issue and went on to collect some before the baby was born? No idea what else I could do differently but I’ll keep trying…

I didn't even bother trying tbh so I wouldn't let it stress you unless it's something you really want to do. squeezing in all different directions might help find it's mojo x

I am having a c-section so wanted to get some in case there’s a delay… I’ll keep squeezing! 🤣

It’s really normal to not get anything at first. Try a little bit each day and you should see it start to come and then it will get easier each time!x

Yep it’s hard at first and you need to just stick at it. Try to relax as much as possible and think hard about your baby, imagine feeding them, snuggling them etc. I liked to be on my own reclined and comfy in bed. Also play around with where to squeeze as everyone is slightly different. I highly recommend watching some videos or doing a course like myexpertmidwife if you haven’t already xx

Hi there, I tried loads too but never did get a single drop out before baby arrived. I don't know if it's your first baby but just to reassure you I was sparkled on meds after my cesarean and they just put baby onto your chest asap the minute you're in recovery, if that's what you want so I didn't even need to be able to make any effort, just lay there with the milk makers out 😄

My baby found the breast instantly, fed and my colostrum came in no bother. I realise there are a few who don't wish to persevere long enough for full milk supply to come in over the following days but it's exceptionally rare for women not to be able to feed from a medical stance. My best advice would be try not to worry because I did and things came together at the hospital. I should say my cesarean was an emergency one after induction so even more risk/chance of complications compared to planned surgery.

Good luck for baby's arrival 🥰 xx

Aw thank you ladies! ♥️ It is reassuring to hear about your experiences. I will stick to it but will try not to over worry if it doesn’t happen before the planned c-section.
