Additional monitoring?

Hi everyone, we were recently very lucky to find out at our early scan (6+6) that things were looking fine after a FET IVF round! 🎉 The fertility clinic has discharged us to NHS care now and I expect the next scan to be after 12 weeks.

Wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing your experience of deciding to do any additional private scans/tests on top of the standard ones or sharing any advice on how you are approaching or have approached this.

Many thanks 🙏

Hi lovely, firstly congrats on your pregnancy! It is rather scary once discharged and then it feels like the longest wait till the 12 week scan. Everyone is different and there is no right or wrong in weather you want to book in additional scans before your first one with the NHS.Me personally I did 2 private scans pre 12 week scan. I think it was like week 8 and week 10 or 11 as my 12 week scan was more like 13 weeks.

It definitely helped calm all the craziness going around on in my head for a couple of days 🤣

We done no additional tests just what is normally done through the NHS xx

Thanks for sharing, yes, it does feel like a bit too long to wait till week 12+, I think we’ll do one extra at week 10! x

Hi there and congrats! I mirror what Jonesy84 has said. Everyone is different and you may find you don’t need any but I also had private scans at 8 and 10 weeks.

Things definitely get easier once you start to feel movements. It’s so hard not knowing what is going on in there before that.

You might start with sickness and nausea soon which will help calm the nerves too.

Wishing you lots of luck! Xx

Thank you! I think I might feel a twinge of nausea but I also might me imagining it and it might be just nerves 😂. All the best to you too x

Hey! Congratulations! I have mixed feelings about getting additional scans - but have done this time around.

1st pregnancy I had the viability scan then an 11 week scan before I went on holiday and our 13week approx scan...

I did have anxiety and I found scans really reassuring.

2nd time around I am finding them a bit stressful and causing unnecessary stress, so trying to limit them for the rest of my pregnancy.

Just do what feels right for you.

Xxx

Thanks for sharing your approach, makes sense. I think we’ll go for one at week 10, it’s only been just over a week since the scan and it feels like a month! Hope all well with you x

Best of luck - my view is do whatever feels right for you. Exciting your midwife appointment is next weem! Xxx

Hi Somoe, congratulations! Personally we are waiting till the NHS 12 week scan which we have on the 11/09. We did look at private scans but both agreed not to go down that route as I know once I have one I will want another one and another as seeing the heartbeat at our 7 week scan did nothing to easy my anxiety. Also if there is something wrong a private scan can do nothing to change the outcome just burn a hole in your pocket so we are waiting. But I know a lot of people on here find it reassuring to have extra scans. It's a very personal choice. If you do have any bleeding or pain though you can been seen by you local EPU. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

That sounds like really sensible advice, you’re so right about never quite being reassured! Thanks and good luck with the rest of your journey x

Congratulations 🥳 I didn’t do any private scans or extras - I was very anxious when my first scan was passed 13 weeks and called and got it moved earlier and my second scan wasn’t until 22 weeks. Lots of anxious times but in all that time you see the midwife regularly and have checks so I didn’t think having any extra scans would allay any fears I had. Good luck 🤞 😅 hope you enjoy your pregnancy in the main xx

we had extra private scans as my aniexty was through the roof. We were under a consultant with it being ivf (some hospitals do this), then babe was big so we have extra NHS scans. Second time. around we're under the consultant again but only due to issues I had with the birth... babe is also big so we have extra NHS scans, no private ones booked this time apart from when we had a gender scan x

So once I had first scan at 7 wks I waited to get my 12 wk date scan through and booked one in between. I also did the same in between my 12wk and 20wk. It kind of kept me sane.....well not really, who am I kidding!🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 However it did give me dates to aim for. Good luck.xxx
