I’ve finally got to a massive milestone of 37 weeks…..
Touch wood all continues well although I had a scan yesterday and was told baby is on the smaller side weighing 5lb 14oz
On my previous scan 8 days ago he was 5lb 11oz and seems the placenta has started to slow down I’ve got another scan booked on 3rd feb if his weight hasn’t gone up they said they will induce me early… all other measurements were within normal range.
Has anyone got any advice or can shed any light on this any stories of this happening to others obviously I’m so worried now
Thank you xx

mine was the opposite, I was told my baby was big for weeks, on every growth scan he was way over 7lb, then he was born 6lb 9.5oz so I don’t think they are always that accurate, and I’ve heard the same thing happening to lots of others too. Try not to worry too much xx
hey hun thanks for your reply I know that normally their weights the hospital give us are slightly wrong but it’s still a massive worry he is moving around well so that’s a good thing xx
Firstly congratulations on reaching full term at 37weeks! I gave birth recently at 37+4 and my baby was also measuring on the smaller side. I had a feeling baby would come early and waters went at 37+3 and I was induced and he came out 6lb9. More than the predicted 6lbs! Personally I wouldn't worry about him being small, however you mention the placenta slowing down?? I'm sure you have asked qs about what this means and a safe timescale to keep an eye on this? I'm sure your in good hands and they know what they are doing and keeping a good eye on you..however mum instincts override all!! and I'd keep an eye on baby's movements.Xxx
Hey a massive congratulations to you!! the hospital said that all placentas start slowing down later in pregnancy but IVF seems to be sooner they have told me not to worry too much but how can I not now lol babies movements are good I’m keeping an eye on them all day I’m hoping he grows a bit more as 5lb 14 seems quite small to me I’m just worried as I got till the 3rd still to wait but seeing midwife on Tuesday so maybe she can reassure me a bit
Thanks for your reply xx
Hey there, totally natural to worry as you are in the final stages. ( I was a mess). The medical team have got your back. They will be keeping an eye on things. If baby is measuring smaller then they will have done a blood flow measurement too. The fact that you are not being induced straight away means that the blood flow to baby is normal so that’s good. They will keep a close eye on you and as you say good movements are reassuring for you too.x Not too long now. All the best.x
hi ya thanks for replying yes blood and oxygen flow was normal so they wasn’t worried there but yes it’s a massive worry and tracking every movement until the 3rd which seems a lifetime away!!! Just hope they are making the right decision which I’m sure they are but yes I’m a mess too lol xxx
I have no advice to speak from - but just wanted to wish you all the best towards the end now! You get to meet your little one soon!! I really do hope all goes well! Happy 37 weeks 🥹🥰🧡
hi hun thank you so much for the kind words not long to go this has been a long long journey after 6 failed attempts I’m praying all goes well now…. I just can’t wait to meet my baby boy now xxx
hi hun, try not to worry too much! They are just keeping an extra eye on you to be on the safe side.
I had it where my bump hadn’t grown between 36 and 38 weeks (was still measuring 34weeks) and had 2 growth scans 2 weeks apart. That showed a stagnation of growth yet everything else looked fine. They did advice to induce at 39 weeks because of that as at full term they rather have them out as they can do things if needed compared with baby being inside still and the placenta slowing (which is a normal thing end of pregnancy by the way). Eventually induction got delayed due to lack of staff and rooms and no one was worried actually and in the end I gave birth at 39+4 and she was 6lb 2oz. Perfectly normal. The bad side of this was that I couldn’t give birth in a midwife let unit as they wanted to monitor her better during birth just in case. Not what I wanted but obviously again just for her and my safety. So go with their advice and do ask about risks and benefits of what they recommend and if they do nothing or if there are alternatives. That should help to understand the situation better!
Hello lovely. My little IVF baby was predicted to weigh 5lb 8oz at birth ( 38 +5) but actually weighed 6lb 10 oz. My consultant wasn't worried as the blood flow from the placenta was absolutely fine. She always said she would worry more if the baby wasn't growing from one growth scan to the next rather than the baby growing but measuring on the small side. Wishing you all the best xx
