Ask your midwife to explain this condition to you . It happens when there is a spontaneous loss of one developing baby early in a multiple pregnancy , usually resulting in a normal singleton pregnancy .Take care
Thanks Janet. I am pre my booking in - so a bit hard to know where to go for advice. My clinic said another scan next week to make sure there is no development. X
It could be similar to what I had, a blighted ovum. This is where the embryo never develops or stops growing leaving an empty sac. Mine was a single pregnancy though. Good luck with your on growing little one xx
Yes I did and everything was perfectly fine with my other baby. In my case, the vanishing twin had a heartbeat but this was beating slow on the first viability scan. I was rescanned by my clinic 2 weeks later & the heartbeat had stopped. I went for a private scan at 10.5 weeks & by that point the twin had completely vanished. My body had reabsorbed it. I was also very scared whether it would affect my healthy baby but my clinic were not concerned in the slightest. They assured me it is quite common. Sorry it has gone this way for you too, but please try not to worry too much about this affecting your healthy baby. Best wishes.
Hey, just to reassure you I had a similar experience. 2 heartbeats at early scan, one slower. Same at repeat scan, but they felt the second baby wasn't viable, which turned out so by scan at 13 weeks. No scans offered in between, it just took its natural course. No problems at all with the other baby. I bled from around week 6 to 13, but all ok. She's now 13 months. All will be ok for u I'm sure. Congrats x
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Yes we have our fingers crossed for our healthy remaining baby xxx
Follow up scan this evening to ascertain the status of the 2 sacs!!! Keep fingers crossed everyone - hoping for the 1 healthy baby remaining to have kept growing strong x
Update from my update - all ok with baby 1 and 2nd gestational sac starting to dissolve.
The consultant really freaked me out though about down syndrome risks and that I wouldn't be able to do the harmony test now to check for abnormalities due to the 'vanishing twin'....
When can anyone relax in pregnancy, and when you are over 40 they make you feel so bad!
