Bleeding continues 😩

Morning lovely people!

Sorry me again. The reassurance of a scan doesn’t last long does it??

The bleed and then spotting from the weekend had stopped and we saw a heartbeat at Mondays scan. This morning woke up with lower back ache and cramps again. Had fresh red blood when I went to the loo and wiped. Not like a full flow period but much more than spotting.

My NHS scan is booked for 25th when I’ll be 8 weeks 🙄. Would you push for any tests at this point? Progesterone? Follow up hcg? An earlier scan? Or just try to relax and ride it out. My clinic won’t offer anything unless pushed so I need to get clear in my head before speaking to them. Thanks xx

Maybe HCG blood tests may help you relax? If you could see your levels rising despite the bleeding this may help? I had some light spotting when I was 5+4 weeks with real bad cramping and had hcg blood test. My bleeding only lasted for a few hours and I only needed the one blood test as my levels were over 36000 (twins) which we didn't know at the time. Bleeding in early pregnancy is so common!

My clinic did say that it could have been irritation from the progesterone pessaries wirh me but did mention they would have upped my progesterone if my bleeding had continued or got worse. I was on 3x pessaries and 1 lubion injection a day. Maybe they could look at your progesterone??

Good luck!! Hope everything works out for you, I know how stressful this time Is. It does not get easier after 12 weeks, I've worried my whole pregnancy something would go wrong and I'm even more worried about tomorrow as I have my c section, the babies are getting evicted lol. I keep telling myself it's OK to feel the way I do as I've been through a bloody lot to get to this point and it's only natural xx

Ah thank you and sending so much luck for your c section tomorrow - can’t wait to see your good news update 🥰 xx

I can totally relate to your stresses. When I was approximately 10 weeks I had bright red blood all over my panty liner. I went to the EPU at my local hospital. All was fine. As you’ve seen a heartbeat already, this may be the best route.

Due to various issues ie bleeding and funny coloured discharges, I went to the EPU about 3 times and each time was adequately supported.

All the best hun x

Thank you! I’m so glad it worked out for you - it’s so stressful isn’t it?! Xx

Oh Solly, I'm sorry. It really doesn't get any easier does it?! I had bleeding on and off for a while early on but they did spot two hematomas and so I was told to expect it and rest up. It's good it's spotting but I would probably push to get referred to the EPU or chase my clinic? Especially as it's red not brown. Is the 8 week scan your official first viability scan?

Pessary irritation might also be the culprit. And upping your progesterone probably wouldn't hurt (what are you currently taking?) depending on your clinic's advice.

Good luck - I hope you get some answers or comfort! xx

Thanks lovely! Yep 8 weeks because the woman booking it forgot before she went on leave 🙄

I’m currently on 3 x 400 a day. I’ve never had my levels checked so will ask about increasing it. My clinic asks you to do them rectally so I do t think it’s irritation unfortunately ☹️ Xx

That's such a pain! Well I hope you can get an earlier scan. It's a long time to wait when you're stressed... As others have said below, the EPU can be lovely and I don't think they'd mind seeing you even if you have had a scan on Monday. xx

Hello lovely. I would push to bring the clinic scan forward a week otherwise that’s an awful long time to wait when you’re feeling stressed. Presume you’ve tried swapping pessaries to the back? That’s what caused bleeding early on for me.

Alternatively you could go to an EPU and explain bleeding has increased. They tend to be lovely and should be happy to scan. Xxx

Hi lovely. You’re right, I’m going to push to bring the scan forward. I already take them back passage as that’s what my clinic prefers so not that unfortunately! Xx

So my friend, non ivf, had bleeding and she had an early scan, they spotted a bruised cervix and gave her progesterone. I would say for sure push for a scan just to ease your mind. My clinic gave me progesterone for up to just over 12 weeks as I asked for that as I was sure I had that last time (they were happy for me to stop at 9 weeks) You could even ask your gp if they are any good ❤️ With our first I had spotting until about 12 weeks, I am assuming due to progesterone pesseries irritating my cervix x

Thanks love. I already take them back passage so don’t think it’s irritation for me. I just emailed them to push for an earlier scan though xx

Definitely test progesterone and have another scan although the 25th is not that far away so you could wait for that if you can. Are you taking progesterone now? Are you on blood thinners?

Yeah lm on 3 cyclogest a day - I’ve just emailed them about bringing the scan forward and seeing if they’ll test my progesterone 🤞🤞 xx

The level is probably fine if you are on 3 Cyclogest per day, I was on only 1 and then they increased to 3, but have it checked if they agree. Just to be on the safe side take it easy and avoid lifting, sex, take it easy until the scan x

I honestly think the epu is your best bet for reassurance solly. I went 3 times in the first trimester and they were brilliant. They will never refuse to see you and will do another scan. Honestly just go back xx

So sorry to hear this. I would push for the scan to be done earlier, so that you can see the actual growth between the previous one and this one and also have an idea of any hematomas. Good luck! xxx

Oh that is so stressful. Do you have a walk in self referral EPU near you? I think a scan at the local EPU would be a good idea. When I had bleeding in early pregnancy, I was put in total bed rest, so you could try that as well. Good luck and I hope things get better soon xx

Hi Solly, I’m sorry you’re going through this stress. I’ve had many miscarriages and have had a number of bleeds in this pregnancy (I’m now at 20 weeks), so some people do just seem to bleed and others don’t. But the only thing that kept me calm was weekly scans in the early days. Can you pay for a private one if your clinic won’t do it? When you’re scanned, ask them to have a good look around in case you have a sub-chorionic haematoma in the womb, or any areas of bleeding, as that could definitely be a cause. x

I had bleeding and spotting throughout my pregnancy and it probably only stopped being every day mid third trimester. It was heaviest early on. I had a lot of extra private scans from as early as five weeks because of prior early losses. EPU sounds like the best bet but could you also investigate to see if there's a reputable private place near you? I found one that had NHS sonographers and they were brilliant with me when I was at moly most anxious. All my scans were fine but even so I wasn't happy being told it was just one of those things and I found through my own experimentation that increased progesterone stopped the bleeding, so I was worried there was something wrong. I asked the maternity team at my local hospital - they got me in for tests and I ended up having a biopsy of my cervix as they found that's where the bleeding was coming from, then monitoring. They never worked out why it was happening but it was no risk to the pregnancy. Everything's probably fine with you but knowing the reason for the bleeding and that it was being monitored gave me reassurance, so if you're worried don't hesitate to push to have your concerns taken seriously x
