Loss of symptoms since lowering steroids - thinking the worst 😒

I've started lowering my steroids from 10mg to 7.5mg to 5mg then at 8 weeks to 2.5mg which I'm still taking now as I'm 8 weeks + 3 days. I want to go back up to 5mg now as I've lost my very few symptoms I had. I thought it would be the other way around? Thinking the worst 😔 did anyone feel the same when lowering their steroid dose? We saw baby on Thursday morning and they were good apart from a Subchorionic bleed below the sac. But my lack of symptoms is worrying. I usually only feel sick in the evening but I haven't the last two nights... I usually go to the loo at night 2 or 3 times last night i only went once ❤️🙏

Hi littlepeax! Please don’t read too much into symptoms changing. They come and go. If it’s any help I also started lowering my prednisone dose from 7 weeks onwards and everything went well.

My symptoms did improve after lowering the dose too, which makes sense as those drugs produce some side effects. Don’t worry about symptoms and I wouldn’t increase the dose unless guided by your clinic. I had a week where my symptoms were improving and I thought that I was finally getting better and then nausea came back with a vengeance lol. So just enjoy when you feel better to do something you fancy doing :).

2.5mg of steroid is a really really low dose. In fact it’s almost sub-physiological ie your body naturally makes more than 2.5mg equivalent a day. When I wean patients from steroid (I’m a hospital based doctor), I never wean them to 2.5mg. Only to 5mg for a few days, then alternate days and then stop. I really don’t think the steriods will affect your symptoms. There’s genuinely no mechanism that they could. If the symptoms have lessened, it’s probably just the stage you’re at. My symptoms were a bit better around 8 weeks and have got worse at 9 weeks xx

Hey lovely, I didnt feel sick at all. My symptoms buggered off literally just after I got a BFP....that's if I even had any and it wasnt the meds. Hang on in there, apparently your body just gets used to the hormones hence the symptoms disappear.....I can't say that this is true but it's what others told me so just wanted to share. Lots of love. Failing all else could you get another scan? I used Ultrasound Direct and they were very handy!xxx

Thanks Cinderella. Yes may get another private scan if I can pluck up the courage xxx

Symptoms can come and go for a lot of people. Sickness for me came in waves - but also everyone has that (or not at all) in differing measures. I think I found the visits to the toilet also petered out after the beginning. Might be an idea for a private scan, or you can always go to the EPU for piece of mind

Hi sweetie. I have no experience with the steroids but agree with everyone else it comes and goes. Actually I generally don’t have much symptoms beside sore boobs if I squeeze them hard enough (🤦‍♀️🤣) and more tired but without feeling exhausted and currently that is it. Had some ‘feeling odd’ if not eating in time but that is better as well. I am 10 weeks today. Also had a bleed like you on my scan at 7+2. I booked a private scan 2 days ago for re assurance because of same reasons like you and all is well and it is wiggling away! Bleed still there but don’t think it is worse. Really do try to not over think the symptoms (So much easier to say than do, as I do the same haha) but it really can come and go and think you are lucky not having many symptoms for now! Hang in there! They are nervous times and time goes so slow but you will get there!

At this stage your hormones are in flux as well as your symptoms. I rarely had any symptoms during those first few weeks and it was very worrying but extra private scans kept me sane during those first few weeks. Is this an option for you? Good luck xx

Please don’t worry about symptoms you’ll drive yourself nuts I did 🙈 I had literally no symptoms they’d come and go and then they were literally nothing 🙈 and I’m currently 27 weeks now!! And now I’m starting to relax more as I’m feeling her move, I didn’t enjoy my first trimester whatsoever as I was worrying over everything but symptoms meant nothing I’m just one of the lucky ones who’s been great all the way through you are probably the same! I had a private scan at 10 weeks as I was that bad worrying and my placenta had taken over by then that can also be a cause for symptoms going as the placenta takes over and does the job for the baby, please try and relax and not worry worrying is no good for you xx

I’m so glad baby is fine ❤️ I know it’s easier said than done mind not worrying as my partner would constantly tell me to stop I couldn’t help myself I think it’s coz we’ve been through so much to get our baby that’s it’s just natural to worry!! I remember stopping the lubion after my viability scan and I was a wreck I was checking my underwear everything constantly 😩 after your 12 week scan you should feel much more relaxed then I had an early gender scan to find out the sex and that was lovely as it was nice to have a scan in between the 12 and 20 week one, all the best to you 🥰 xxx
