Diagnosed with NAFLD, borderline NASH

So it all started when the doctor noticed some liver enzymes were slightly high via check-up bloodwork analysis. She told me it was no big deal and just to do diet and exercise. I did start exercising (prob. not as much as I should have) but didn't really watch my diet. I then started experiencing pain in my upper right abdomen, ran to the doctor, and she ordered bloodwork and an ultrasound.

Ultrasound confirmed I had extensive steatosis, and the Fibrosure test came out like this:

-F0 - no fibrosis

-Steatosis score of 0.77 or S3

-N1 or borderline NASH or probable NASH

Ever since I began experiencing pain, I realized something was wrong, and I have since (6 weeks) been on a strict diet, eliminated sugars, red meat, cheese, pasta, as many carbs as possible, and I began a HIIT routine. I have lost 7.7 pounds in the last 6 weeks or so, but I stopped registering any weight loss a couple of weeks ago (in order to lose 10% of my weight, I still have to lose another 10 pounds, which is what the doctor said to lose. I started out at 182 pounds and right now, I have no idea how to achieve that. My weight just doesn't seem to be bulging anymore, as much as I am dieting and exercising.

This diagnosis really shook me because I never imagined my liver could be in such a bad state. While I wasn't ever a model for exercise and diet, I never considered myself to have such unhealthy habits as to be diagnosed with borderline NASH.

I wanted to ask you for tips, and your advice on what I should do now and how to continue losing weight, diet tips, what worked for you, and more importantly, I am looking to find out if it is possible to get my liver back to a healthy state. I am 48, BTW, if that helps.

I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks.

EDIT: I should also add that glucose levels were high (98), and cholesterol levels too (can't recall the numbers, will update if I find the last bloodwork papers).

I would take a bit of a breath. As long as it is not cirrhosis, you can turn it around.

I would go over to google and type in "Fatty Liver Diet" or go directly to amazon or barnes and noble and do the same.

There are dozens of cookbooks out there but I do not want to endorse any specific one, how am I supposed to know what is real or bluster? But check the reviews, how about trying something from the library - just at the start?

Using a fatty liver diet cookbook and just getting up and moving around is enough for many people.

Please note that I am not a doctor or nutritionist, just a message board poster. You should always listen to a professional and not someone like me.

The internet is filled with advice as is this website, so poke around a bit. Good luck and I think you will be fine!

Ken, thank you very much for your reply. The cookbook advice is great, I had not thought about it. I will poke around the site to read of other people's experiences. Cheers!
