alt and ast levels

Im a 46 year old male 5'7, 238 lbs. I list some history before i ask a question.

10/14-- heart ablation

10/14 diagnosed with severe obst. sleep apnea with Hypopnea. Been on a cpap ever since.

history of alcohol last 30 years up until about 6 months ago, still drink but some every other week due to being on call. Havent drank anything in the last 2 weeks due to being tired and not feeling good anyways.

2/20 noticed dizziness, low heart rate, low spo2

heart rate in the 50's, spo2 86-94. At night its dropping to 88 percent.

Went to MD on sat 2/29 did a full lab work up and EKG which came out screwy and now waiting on referral to heart Dr.

Got my labs back Tuesday and was told by the nurse that they look good except my ALT is 200 and AST124

I cant find any chart on how high or low besides ranges where I see that I am above range. Dr. wasnt in and she will call me since I have questions. Was advised no tylenol or ibuprphen or alcohol at all.

Does any of the above have anything to do with whats going on with my liver? Are these values high? And I thought when you stop alcohol you liver heals. Has past abuse of alcohol caught up with me, I have a appointment also with the sleep apnea dr. to check my machine in case thats not working well either.?

any input would be appreciated or at least to know if im super high or not so.

diagnosis of liver disease is complex and it is comorbid with a host of other conditions. All of the things you mentioned can be the result of a struggling liver but aren't diagnostic. The first concern is probably to see your heart doc but if it were me I'd try to follow that with a meeting with a liver specialist. It is good that you are stopping drinking but you should get a good evaluation of your liver status. It is likely that you have damage but you need to understand how much and how you might deal with your situation.

I would certainly get in to see a cardiologist and also a hepatologist. Maybe a pulmonologist for your sleep apnea. I am a heart patient (in heart failure) and have sleep apnea amongst other things. My cirrhosis is due to my heart failure and probably some fatty liver also. I’m learning that liver problems can happen from many different things.

Sorry but I am not sure about highs and lows of ALT or AST. I do know from talking to my doc that your liver may not regenerate itself if the damage is to bad. My Cirrhosis is caused from Fatty Liver but I immediately stopped drinking even though I haven’t been a heavy drinker since the late 70s. I only take Tylenol per doc if needed. That is the only over the counter med I take. Absolutely no alcohol and better diet is the safe way to go. I have a wonderful Hepatologist, I trust him with my life.

The excess weight will also have a negative effect on your liver. With a healthier diet, simple walking for exercise and no alcohol go a LONG way in correcting the liver issues. You certainly can't expect your liver the "heal" itself while it's continuing to be damaged. Any weight loss will also help greatly with the sleep apnea issues. I'm speaking from experience and know that you can make changes now which can prolong your life rather than shorten it. Wishing you the best in a healthier life!

Garlic Broccoli spinach are all great for the liver. Go heavy on that and add it into your diet every day. Get a smoothy maker and pour it using fruit to mask the taste if required.

Cut out sugar and all foods that contain it, that means things like orange juice and soda.

good luck

Be careful with iron containing foods eat moderate because when person has liver issues it can not process iron proper so it might get deposited in liver and cause more damage to liver .eat in moderation.consult doctor is a must because everyone does not know how much their liver is damaged
