I’m wondering if anyone else has had trouble (due to liver disease) with colonoscopy prep. Not fun for anyone…but I got so sick last time it took my liver over a month to calm down. I’m going to try suprep (prescribed) as it allows lower liquid requirements vs 2 bottles of myralax mixed with what seems to be 100 gallons of sugary Gatorade … all swallowed in less than an hour. My Dr. Suggested Zopran for nausea … I just hate taking medicines, drinking sugar, and preparing for this by eating low fiber white junk for a week. Appreciate any tips, insights, and yes… encouragement! Thanks.

colonoscopy prep with nafld nash
I’m scheduled for colonoscopy next month and I’m very concerned about the prep. My liver is stable right now and I feel like all that fluid and laxative is going to throw everything out of balance. It can’t possibly be good for electrolytes to go out of whack. TBH I’m thinking about skipping it.
I hear ya! I just finished part 1 of the prep with supraprep and recommend it. (Your Dr. Must prescribe it.) I didnt have to drink gallons of sugary/gatorade…The d rink tastes bad but it wasn’t as syrupy as myralax and the prep is split into two sessions (evening before and morning of). I haven’t done the second round yet but didn’t get nearly as sick and bloated as I have in the previous 3 preps. I highly recommend stopping solid food before they tell you to, drinking warm bone broth, and drinking lots of fluids for days before and during the prep. Good luck!
No, I just had my first colonoscopy since diagnosis last year. I didn't have any more problems than before, the usual. I used sugar-free gateraid and didn't eat that day. I didn't do anything different much with my diet before other than not eat as much fiber drank more protein for 24 hours before. I don't drink the liquid that fast, I had until midnight started at 1pm. Everything was cleaned out and ready to go for the next morning, all went well after, no problems. Went to breakfast afterward. Good luck, I know it's rough getting ready, hope all turns out well.
Highly recommend supraprep … I didn’t swell up, throw up, or take a month to recover from gatorade/miralax. The supraprep mixture is Not pleasant tasting, but not having to slam all that liquid made it much easier. Glad it’s over and relieved I had a great report.
I feel for. Try not to worry. I had to do this back-to-back, because I had my colonoscopy and then they found something and had to go right back in there. I am fine, but I had to do two preps in two weeks. I had them give me prep with no flavor and that made it easier on me. I also kept it cold in the fridge and between swinging it down. I also took a little longer than they said to get it down. I'm sure my liver did not like it. But it doesn't seem to be any worse for the wear. Getting the colonoscopy is so important. We once found a small cancerous tumor, and found it so early they just cut it off. And I didn't need any further treatment. You will get through this and you will be o k. Prayers!
I get terribly sick on the prep. I don't think you'd even want me top describe it. Both times we called the squad. I'm wondering if it is my liver or I am allergic to something in it. Let's just say that it empties me out on every level. It seems like it is a violent reaction.
I just did a colonosopy on the 18th of September. I used 64 oz. of water with 8 scoops of Rootcology Electrolyte Blend with one 8.3 oz. bottle of miralax mixed in. I drank one 8 oz. glass of this mixture every fifteen minutes until gone thr evening before the procedure. I also used eight tablets of Dulcolax spread out over the two days before the procedure (taking two at a time every six to eight hours). Thus was the plan that my doctor and I worked out. I told him I was sugar and chemical sensitive, and he was willing to work with me.
The menu on the day before prep was chicken broth and Knox gelatin squares made with fruit juice. I also drank herbal and decaf green teas and lots of water.
I did really well with the prep and the procedure. It was much better than I thought it would be, considering my blood sugar issues and fatty liver. I didn't feel sick at all during prep. And today, the day after, I'm a little tired and my liver feels a bit sore, but I'm confident I can take care of the problem with a little care and gentle detox.
I hope you see this before you have your colonoscopy, so you can share it with your doctore. God bless you.
