Most of us Intermittent Fast (IF) for weight loss, and IF is a safe, easy way to lose weight without counting calories... but IF is about so much more than weight loss...
Many of the videos I have linked cover more than one "answer", and many of the benefits of fasting help longevity and non-communicable diseases, so (sorry) there are not many "one-click" answers.
Is fasting Safe?
Dr Mindy Pelz has produced a chart summarising the benefits of fasting, and give some indication of the time scales for each of the main benefits:

You can use IF as an initial methodology for weight loss, or you can switch to it - if what you are doing does not work, or has stopped working.

Intermittent fasting is good for Insulin resistance and Diabetes, particularly in combination with the Keto or Low-Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet see:

This oversimplified video is about autophagy – how your body recycles cells, bacteria, and rubbish - for longevity and to prevent ¿and/or cure? most non-communicable diseases:
Autophagy does not occur much until you have been fasting over 24 hours, and, if you want autophagy for cancer, longer fasts work better.
