How muslim athletes cope during Ramadan,

Hi everyone,

For those of you who struggle with fasting sometimes imagine being a muslim and an athlete and having to compete while fasting and I think the most important points made are forward planning, eating well when breaking the fast and staying focused.

I found the article a bit odd how it goes on about a team mate eating bacon but the point is the team mate gave up bacon for Ramadan, which I thought was very supportive of a non muslim, so I felt respect over this action.

Here's the article in Yesterdays article in The Guardian:

I think the plan for Ramadan is the same as the general plan:

Do not train so hard before an event that your glycogen reserves are depleted.

A "full tank of glycogen" gives us about 2,000 calories... enough for a marathon or a football match.

For endurance events, e.g. longer cross-country skiing events, or the 760 miles in 90 hours Paris-Brest-Paris, carbohydrate is useful, but it helps to be able to get a lot of energy from fat reserves.
