Fasting, The Hidden Key to Success.

Hi everyone,

Here's an interesting article on fasting and its many benefits, including the spiritual and how it can help us to regain control of ourselves by strengthening our will power which helps us to over come many problems created by our emotions/delusions.

I have read this article twice now and am very impressed with the psychological empowerment we can gain from fasting and learning self control.

Here's the article please see:

Fasting (ketosis) is good for the brain.

Self-control is good.

I am aware that some people benefit from religion or spiritualism... but I think that discussing spiritual benefits of fasting might make people think that fasting is a "fad" diet.

Hi S11m, I see our spiritual side as doing things that are good for the soul without religious dogma.

As an atheist - do I have a soul?

I like to think that I am a "benevolent atheist"... and, if I had a soul... what would be good for it would be being benevolent to "my neighbour".

This article sounds a bit full on to me. A fast of multiple days when you’re working and dealing with family life doesn’t sound practical...

Hi, RedUnicorn

You do have to transition into "fat-burning mode" first.

I find the main problem is boredom - and can walk my normal four or five km per day while fasting.

Some people fast when they are having a demanding time at work - because the brain works better on ketones.

I guess it’s ‘horses for courses’ not sure I would be keen to carry on for longer than 20 hours... my body tells me it wants food as I get shakes/ gnawing hunger by then.

Ultimately we need to listen to our bodies.

Have you been on 20:4 for six months?

No, 16:8 for 6 months, been mixing it up this week to kick start my weight loss after off plan weekends ( family gathering and wedding) as I said in post this week: healthunlocked.com/fasting-...

and it has been really successful this week with me dropping about 3 or 4 pounds since last Sunday ( weigh in tomorrow) I have done 50/50 OMAD and 16:8.

16:8 for six months would certainly make a big difference... but if you get "shakes/ gnawing hunger" your body is telling you that you are doing plenty.

This was insightful, especially how emotions take over when feeling hungry, it brings home the message the initial battle is being self aware and it gets easier with time
