My 8 year old has recently upped her movicol from 1 to 2 sachets. She had been on a maintenance dose for about a year. She is now complaining of tummy ache after emptying her bowls this is usually in the evening until she goes to sleep so can be several hours and sometimes the following morning too. Is this normal?
Her GP has recently referred her to paediatrics for advice as we we have tried to reduce movicol with no luck... she has been on movicol now for 18 months they suggested (via letter) that we increase her dose & add senna and possibly check TTG. I’m assuming that TTG is via a blood test?

Hi, my 7 year old suffers from constipation only just diagnosed, He is on movicol 2 sachets a day ( the GP said it’s a maintenance dose and a different GP prescribed 5ml sodium picosulfate at bedtime to go with the movicol he has been on them since June this year. He has had a abdominal x Ray that shows a blockage and has been referred to peadatrics (he has appointment in October)
He has never complained of belly ache (but he does mask pain), Maybe your daughter is still needing to go but can’t so maybe the senna will help with that.
I give my son 2 sachets a day when he is at school but if he hasn’t been during the week I give him 4 sachets a day at the weekends to help a little more. I was also told by a different GP to try prune juice but make sure it is ice cold and only a 1/4 of a cup
A different GP wants to wean him off the medication but as he has been on it a month I refuse to as im aware that his still going to be blocked because they refused to let me do a disimpaction on him and the GP warned me that the constipation will get worse again!
Yes a TTG test is a blood test it is used to check for celiac disease, it is good that they are checking that.
Good luck and I hope you get some answers soon and that your daughter stops being in pain.
