Coming off Movicol

Anyone any advice on how to come off Movicol? My daughter has been taking this for about 5 years now. She has improved and we rarely have accidents any more. She takes one sachet a day but I wonder if we should be looking to reduce this snd wean her off. Almost impossible to see a doctor and they didn't seem to have much advice but the specialist has discharged when the issues stabilised so don't really know who to ask. Seems odd to be left on medication for years with no exit plan...

Hi Busymama . Because Movicol just delivers water to the bowel, there's no real need to wean off. Usually people would reduce to find a dose that keeps the poo at the correct consistency. If your daughter's poo is fine, what's normally done is to reduce or stop, but if you do start to see a change again, start back. It's normal to have to disimpact every now and then too.
