My son had constipation very bad at 9 months old which then put fear into him. He is 7 and still won't tell me if he needs to go and constantly poops his pants. He never fully emptys his bowels. I have no idea what else to do.....he's been on movicol for 5 years

you can actually buy it over the counter or on prescription. Helps them feel the need to go,its fairly powerful though and very effective. Good luck

My son was prescribed Senna alongside, it didn't seem to help. Then Sodium Picosulfate which seems to help much more. Good luck.

Hi, I feel your pain, it sounds like he needs to see a psychologist to help deal with his toilet phobia. That’s what my child had. If using the NHS it’s difficult to access. Otherwise, you need to make him feel safe in the toilet, with stories, games or whatever he will like in their. Needs to sit on the toilet after breakfast and dinner for 20 mins, and be rewarded when does this and if does a poo.Think about what will get him on the toilet, a bathroom decorAted for him, comfy toilet seat etc. Good luck

Thanks yea I agree he needs some kind of help. I do all that.....we have had toys books and even my phone. He will sit on there for ages. But I have to initiate the toilet times otherwise he won't go or tell me he needs to go and will either try stop it from coming out or just let's it happen in his pants.

Hello, Senna has been a game changer for us. Regular senna 25ml prescription for my son) then reduce the cosmacol (movicol). We get a full poo pretty much every day but it takes 20 mins on the loo. Ask your dr to prescribe senna to help him shrink his bowel back and feel sensation again.

Hi, if he’s still soiling his pants, you might be good seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist if you haven’t already or seeing them again.

Ditto Shasha but can see that Strugglingmum2222222 posted 2 years ago. Be good to know the update as I am still very much struggling with my 7yr old and chronic constipation still. Lactulouse helps keep things soft. He will not take Movical. Used to be on Senna but GP prescribed the Senna tablets and I cant get him to swallow it. It really affects everything! 😔
