My four year old suddenly started daytime wetting in April this year. After a couple of months of reward charts, increased fluids, reminder alarms and negative urine samples we discovered she had an imperforate hymen. We’re waiting on a hospital appointment at the moment to get this investigated further. Her daytime wetting has improved but not resolved. She is generally dependent on being told to go to the toilet now and also seems to hold in urine now (either consciously or unconsciously)!Has anyone had experience of this? I’m wondering if the wetting could be linked to the imperforate hymen???

Imperforate hymen and daytime wetting
an imperforate hymen shoudnt have any impact on continence (if at all)until puberty so I would imagine its unlikely to be this, unless she has other issues in her pelvic area? As she was dry up to age 4 its probably other issues, a really obvious one is to double check her bottom wiping technique & make sure she has a shower/wash of the area, some kids seem to be prone to silent UTI's triggering dysfunction, also double check her bowels are working ok, particularly if she has had a change in her daily routine(....i think that as you say it started in April it may be a clue as I think a lot of parents on here are dealing with flare up of continence issues due to COVID worries!)
Thank you There doesn't seem to be any UTI as she's had a number of samples tested and they always come back negative. Her bowels seem to be moving regularly. My initial thought was it was down to the change in routine because of Covid. It came so out of the blue though as she'd been dry day and night with literally no accidents from when she came out of pull ups at 3. It's now gone on for so long ..she seems to be in an either conscious or unconscious habit of holding in urine now...
