Hi ya. We went through 2 disimpaction programmes. The second one was not working(he was on 12 movicol) we were going backwards at a fast rate. We spoke to his doctor and they felt he needed a stay in hospital. We did this three weeks ago and it did resort in a lot of movement which had helped us no end. I would recommend it. Also I found it gives the doctors a chance to get to know your daughter. My son has had nearly 7 weeks of school since January. We are still struggling but it is more manageable and I'm learning there is no quick fix. Which is very hard sometimes. My son was on 20ml of sodium picolate and 20ml of senna when he was in hospital and now he is on 4-6 sachets of movicol a day. Hope this helps. Stay strong you are not on your own.
Thank you so much for everything hope your son is OK and I am calling tomorrow to get him in for some help I think it will really help him even if I goes to 1 accident a day it's better then nothing xx thank you all!!
Hope you find a solution quickly, for my son it was hospital enemas as the movicol disimpactions didn’t work for him. Since the enemas we can now control the constipation with movicol. It helps to have a doctor or nurse who is sympathetic in hospital. It’s taking a very long time for my son’s bowel to recover after all the interventions but I can see slow improvement and I’m sure he will get there. The soiling didn’t stop when the impaction was cleared, just wanted you to be aware in case that happens to you. The gastroenterologist said it can take a long time for the bowel to heal. Best of luck and let us know how you get on, X
Hi I totally understand that after his hospital trip won't be a "quick fix" but I think he just wants to see some improvement as he is getting down about nothing really getting any better I am hoping we can at least control it a bit better and just get him back to school thanks for advice xxx
Hi. I really feel for you, our Daughter has same problem (she is 8). She was admitted to hospital two years ago for disenpackment. We were there for the week but it wasn't really until she had something similar to clean prep that she was really cleared out. She is still taking movicol daily now but still with lots of pain and soiling. A really tough time isn't it and struggling getting to school as well. Please feel free to message me or email me anybody who is going through same thing. It is so stressful and really does effect the whole family. Feel very alone in between going to the Consultant appointments, and even then they don't really do anything. Take care
Thank you and i feel just the same as u we see the consultant every 4/5mths and then nothing in between please email me it's great to have a support network I am going to see if there is some groups on Facebook of not make one xxx good luck with u too xxx
It’s great that we aren’t alone though and there are others out there. I broke down one day in hospital and one of the nurses literally let me cry on her shoulder. Things have got better for us slowly but I agree about the consultant apptmts which haven’t really had an impact.
For us going to see a private nutritionist was more helpful as my son’s primary issue was gastric pain and change of diet has really helped that.
