I just feel like we are fully alone in this situation.
My 11 year old Daughter still wets the bed and we've tried everything from watches to alarms etc to medication.
She is getting to an age though now where she is starting to get embarrassed about wearing her Drynites pants to bed and she also has to wear them on long journeys in case she drifts off to sleep. Has anyone else got an older child using them and how do you deal with keep their confidence as high as possible?
Hiya, my son is 9 (year 4) and in nappies 24/7 for bowel incontinence. I totally understand where you are coming from and in my wiser moments feel that it’s important that my son knows it’s not his fault and it’s just taking time for his bowel to heal.
But still find it frustrating!!
I think it’s important to make a point of saying it won’t be forever and that you are doing everything you can to find a solution.
My son has had support from continence nurse and school nurse. When they get older sometimes they need someone else to talk to and a health professional can help them to see it’s a physical health issue and it’s natural for them to have feelings about what is happening to their body.
There’s another recent post on here about bladder control, someone who mentions the Evelina hospital and there being constipation that had no symptoms,deffo worth a read.
Good luck and I hope you can get her sorted, maybe a referral to the Evelina would help.
Ps, tell her there are other kids out there in exactly the same boat. I’ve told my son about this forum and he even wrote another boy a little message within one of my posts once. She’s not the only one xxxx
My son uses them at night and he is 11 - you are definitely not alone.
Our son is 9 and like your daughter, still wears nappies at night. He is often wet two or even three times in the night. We have tried him without them a couple of times, but he gets so tired that it just isn't practical. Also, like your daughter, we put drynites on him for long car journeys, as its hard to keep him awake once we get on the motorway. The most stressful time we've had and the only time that he has become really upset by it all, was leading up to a very recent school trip. However, because of his fantastic teacher, who helped him very discreetly and with great kindness and understanding, he had a great time and nobody noticed.
We use pull ups (our son is 8) for trips where it is impractical to get to the loo at short notice ( long train trips, motorways and overnight stays - he often wets the bed 1 or 2 times if not). I really feel for all of the children out there dealing with this - and families. Be assured you are not alone! We just say to our son that it is a purely practical thing, because his body can't wake up/hold onto a wee. Hopefully, someone will find a way to help with the root of the problem sooner rather than later. We have just been referred to paediatric urology, and awaiting an appointment.

Hi, I realise that this is an older post - but I've just joined. I am 15 now and still have problems at wetting at night. My mum took me to the GP and we tried all kinds of medication. They then did some tests that showed that I started to grow faster than my bladder is - I am still hoping my bladder will catch up... In the mean time I wear protection at night - I started with drynites - which leaked a lot so, when I was 12 I went to the larger pampers nappies - I grew out of them eventually, but I am still wearing a nappy (Tena Junior) to bed each night. Please take your daughter to the GP (if you havn't already) and let her know she's not alone. I got used to the nappies eventually - they are just another step on the journey 
My daughter who is 8 used to wee soo heavily at night and always leaked out of her nappies. She got put on Desmopressin, we took it for a while and it worked - stopped her seeing soo much, then she started to have more nights where she was dry and sometimes waking up to go to the toilet. I then forgot to give it to her on some occasions and she was still dry so thought I’d leave it for abit and when she started year 3 at school I put her in knickers.
